The Films Of Bruce LaBruce

Bruce LaBruce thread, because he is fucking incredible. Endlessly inventive, always funny as fuck, and deserves to be far more famous than he is. Even though he is fairly famous.

My favourites:

Super 8 ½

One of my top ten films of all ever. Brilliant take on what I personally find to be an insufferable Fellini picture. Bruce's adventures as a pornographer trying to make pornography when everyone just keeps shouting "art" at him, for God sake. Or maybe vice versa. (I can't find any decent YouTube clips of it)

No Skin Off My Ass

Bruce falls in love with a skinhead. https://youtu.be/_Fnw1RLmjTk

OTTO, or, Up With Dead People

A queer emo zombie wanders about having sex with folk, whilst a documentarian tries to turn his day-to-day into some sort of Marxist parable. Bringing Sexy Back... From The Dead, as the tagline had it.  https://youtu.be/C0uZB-OCXPM

The Raspberry Reich

A bunch of queer left-wing terrorists shoot and shag and carry-on at a terrible rate as a garrumph of onscreen slogans (The Revolution Is My Boyfriend!!!; Madonna is Counter-Revolutionary)  punch the screen all sorts of shades of shit. https://youtu.be/vn1rqicvZp0

My favourites, them, though I also love Hustler White, Skin Flick, and so on.

Anyway. Any other fans about?

He's a director I've known about for years but I've never got round to his films, but they seem really appealing. The premise of Super 8 1/2 sounds brilliant, you've spurred me to give it a watch. I hate the Fellini film too.

I did see a documentary from French TV I think it was, where he hung out with Jorg Buttgereit. He came off well in it, it's worth a watch.

Ah that sounds wonderful, I haven't seen that.

The 2011 documentary on his work - The Advocate For Fagdom - was good fun, if oddly conservative.

That used to be shown a lot at the dear, departed Scala cinema in King's Cross. Mariella Frostrup's pronouncement of its title, on her video review show when it was released in that format, is a memory I'll take to the grave.

I got round to watching Super 8 1/2. I really enjoyed it! Very funny indeed. It has me keen to watch more of his oeuvre. Thanks for the recommendation.
Spoiler alert
I Am A Fugitive From A Gang Bang

is also the funniest spoof porn title I've ever read.
