Becoming less of a maths dunce

Apparently loads of maths people are really bad at arithmetic and calculating things, it just stops being about that for a lot of people and becomes about theoretical doughnuts

I read How to Read Numbers recently, and the intro went something like

Lots of people think they are bad at maths. David is a stats journalist, and he thinks he's bad at maths. Tom is an Oxbridge professor who has a Gold Award from the International Stats Lads and is a Fields Medal winner and his job is literally to teach maths to PhD students, and he thinks he's bad at maths

I'm bad at maths in the same way as they are, but I do have this nagging feeling that I'm missing something.

Oh well, as others have said, there's always calculators and internet, and if there isn't then there's probably not too much need for maths.
