QuoteAdrian Edmondson will share memories of working with Rik Mayall in a new documentary about Bottom for Gold.
The feature-length film, Bottom Exposed, will also include new interviews with other collaborators on the classic sitcom, 20 years after Mayall and Edmondson's final stage show together, and ahead of the 10th anniversary of Mayall's death, aged just 56, next year.

Made by retrospective specialists Studio Crook (Tony Hancock: Very Nearly An Armful, One Foot In The Grave: 30 Years Of Laughs), production on the documentary began this summer.

Good stuff!

Although there was some odd decisions about chronology with the Hancock documentary, the previous docs they have done are sound.

Yes, you've got to hand it to Gold, they've put out some superb docos over the years. They really put the BBC - who don't seem that bothered with celebrating their legacy of classics - to shame. That said, BBC4 is terrific.

To be fair, Gold IS the BBC.

Utter Shit

I've been rewatching Bottom recently...I know this isn't new information but fuck me it's so funny. Eddie's impression of 'Sean Connery' as James Bond is incredible.

Glebe

I was sitting up late last night and caught a rerun of Gold's Britain's Greatest Comedian. Rik came 29th out of a 30, which is a mite controversial!

And not a lotta people know dat.

Rik popped up in Irish comedy series Damo and Ivor, he actually did some filming in the childhood home of a mate I've known since childhood!

Paul Bettany virtually did a Rik impression in one episode of Wandavision!

Wait til you see the whites of their eyes, lads.

They would've won if they kept their eyes closed.

Nice. Saw a little teaser for it the other day but it just said 'coming soon'.

I'm still quite surprised Ade is doing it. He's been pushing away from his comic past for years. I am pleased he's doing it though.

i still miss Rik. I still get a wave of genuine sadness when I am reminded that we had him once and that he is no longer with us.

Very sad to see him there by himself, no one to hit with that pan.

Same here. Richie Richards, I think is one of my favourite ever comic characters.

I've just come to applaud the thread title, especially if it's a sly reference to the late grot magnate David Gold.

I have nowhere good to put this but I watched Demon 1979 (from the last season of Black Mirrors) the other day and there's a character named Keith Holligan played by Nicholas Burns (Nathan Barley) and from the instant he gets back into his flat I was reminded of Richie. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but I swear he's playing the character as a realistic Richard Richard. He even leaves to wash his bollox. It's surreal.

Anyway, looking forward to this documentary. Lets weigh all the lads!

Burns is one of those performers - like Toby Stephens, Paul Bettany, Greg Davies - who has a naturally "Rik-ish" way. A combination of having mildly snakeish eyes, and a smile that looks like a sneer.

Yeah me too

Richard Richard is maybe my favourite comedy character of all time

The first two series are flawless aren't they ?
I have my favourite episodes but fuck me ,it's brilliant episode 1- 12

Series 3 I know it slips a wee bit , but there's still enough in there

Bottom live 1 reminds me of great times too , rinsed that vhs

Cannot wait for this documentary
I'm gonna make a wee night of it when it drops

I'm very sad Rik isn't there hitting him with the pan.

Which he hasn't done since 2007.
But I suppose he might still be doing it in his spare time for nothing.
