Got wanderlust after listening to America. Tell me what you like.

I read an offbeat (then) new novel called Dodgers by Bill Beverly a few years ago. If you want a more challenging, unusual road trip, I'd recomend it. It's about a bunch of African American kids who are sent by the adult drug dealer they work for to supposedly kill a judge in his suburban home miles away. Never really read anything like it.

The Sky Changes by Gilbert Sorrentino is a good one, mixing a story of marital breakdown with some acerbic social criticism.

I can't remember enough about it now to be sure that it counts as a road trip novel (I think so), but I remenber that I did enjoy "Setting Free the Bears" by John Irving a lot when I read it in my twenties.
