TRUMP No. 9: A weird fucking bumble hex

He really is a cackling arch-villain now. All he's missing is a cape and a massive cherry bomb.

kngen

Maybe wishful thinking on my part, but given the 'shocked and appalled' responses from his parade of bumlickers, perhaps they see this as their opportunity to extricate themselves from his sphere of influence, as the whistleblower thing looks far more like acceding the Democrats; defending the US's right to set up camp anywhere they like in the world is a much better look for GOP stalwarts.

The coverage over here is hilarious though - almost every news piece I've seen or read refers to the Kurds as 'helping the US defeat ISIS', like they held America's jacket while the Marines went in and kicked some raghead ass. The YPK et al didn't help the US defeat anything.THey alone defeated ISIS. They were the ones that captured the strategically important Taqba Dam, thus controlling the water supply to the last ISIS stronghold of any real significance, Raqqa. They did it when the US forces were pissing about in the desert miles behind them while they argued with Turkey about supplying the Kurds with American weaponry. Ditto Raqqa itself. That was wholly an SDF (ie Kurdish) effort, with the US dawdling behind them as they lay siege to the city, breaching the city walls and ISIS defences once the US turned up with some more ordnance for them.

It is a fucking travesty that the US are leaving them twisting in the wind. But I called this about two or three years ago, so I'm not exactly shocked.

At least Biggy's happy, wherever he is.

Paul Calf

I can't help but wonder again: what's happening that this is intended to distract people from? Is it just the impeachment stuff? I mean, he's talking like a genuine dictator.

jobotic

He's talking like Erdogan. Maybe knowing some socialists are going to get slaughtered because of him just makes him excited.

Considering the absolute stink this has caused with Republicans I doubt this was planned. He probably just talked to Erdogan and got easily persuaded (as he always is) to the Turkish dictator's point of view.

Trump's visibly cacking it over impeachment.

Won't the Kurds release the 15,000 ISIS prisoners they're holding? Just wash their hands of them, knowing how awful that'll make shithead look?

It's making Wag the Dog look quite benign.

I think they'll execute the worst ones. The rest starve, ransom the rest. Maybe just light the whole place on fire.

Good bargaining tool to have with Assad. Hand them over to Syrian military in exchange for protection and some sort of autonomy

Not far off : https://twitter.com/TheBradMielke/status/1182034726703570944

Not to defend Trumperino here, but what exactly is the plan of his many many critics on this one? I haven't seen much support for an independent Kurdish state (and even if there was, who are you carving it out from?), so is the plan that the U.S. military permanently occupy the region?

Mister Six

The plan certainly isn't "leave with little warning and hang the Kurds out to dry as Turkey moves in", that's for sure.

The very presence of U.S. military forces is illegal and unjustified.

Though even as someone who is very anti-empire I will grant you that this situation is slightly more complicated because it is not about militarily "liberating" anyone, since the mere presence of U.S. forces sitting doing nothing is what prevented the Turkish offensive.

*Edit* For fucks sake can't believe I used the word "troops" earlier

US to UN peace-keeping role.

Also 'No Kurds in Normandy' is a decent bandname.

Mister Six

What's "a weird fucking bumble hex" from? Is it from anything? It's a perfect little turn of phrase.

As an American imperialist, I've culturally appropriated it from Chris Morris describing Brexit

Maybe no-one told the Kurds about the Normandy landings? It was , after all, Top-Secret.

Alberon

Special mention does have to made of Trump's justification for the betrayal.

QuoteThe US president told reporters that the Kurds "didn't help us in the second world war, they didn't help us with Normandy as an example – they mention the names of different battles, they weren't there", in a staggering comment following the signing of executive orders on federal regulation at the White House on Wednesday.

"We have spent a tremendous amount of money helping the Kurds," the president said. "They're fighting for their land. When you say they're fighting with the US, yes. But they're fighting for their land."

Kurdish forces fought alongside the US against the Islamic State for nearly five years, losing roughly 11,000 fighters.

Trump said he learned that the Kurds didn't help in Normandy from a "very, very powerful article", apparently referencing a column by the conservative opinion writer Kurt Schlichter.

"Alliances are very easy. But our alliances have taken advantage of us," Trump also told reporters. Misrepresenting how Nato works, he added: "If you look at how much money we spend on Nato and how much countries from Europe who are a much bigger beneficiary than we are."

So if you're fighting alongside the Americans, but you have a vested interest in the outcome, best watch your back.

chveik

I know I shouldn't be surprised but fucking hell.

The biggest mistake Trump repeatedly makes is thinking that "catty old woman at the bingo" is a cool persona.

Urinal Cake

Trump is looking into Turkey (accidentally) firing on US positions- seems unlikely there'll be serious consequences. Trump is also happy that Saudi Arabia just paid for the deployment of US troops to protect Saudi assets.
To be an American soldier- Trump loves his troops.

He's the only president who looked exactly the same in the gender swap meme. Physically, he's pretty much agender. Again, why is he considered this mighty alpha male by so many?

He looks like a cartoon fish. The fish that bullies the protagonist at the beginning, the dumb one of the gang.

He absolutely loves doing all that. Bitching about people, with an audience booing and cheering to order, pure heaven for the guy.

How's he going to cope when he eventually leaves office?
