Been watching this series lately: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzC5op3vcVbLkSb1MXgJj1A

unemployedwineguy seems to be a sommelier who reviews the strangest selection of alcoholic drinks. Looking like a younger mix of Mark Goodier and Rik Mayall, on a bed of Frasier-esque music, he's very good at playing his character. I'm enjoying it.

Jomboy Media is mostly of interest if you're into US sport, but he's branching out, and his series of videos with him and a friend breaking down old game shows is a lot of fun. MTV's "Next" gets a deserved kicking here.

So what's with the recent trend of people posting minute long videos with #shorts in the title? I've noticed a few channels i follow doing it.

My assumption is that some people noticed the Youtube algorithm was favouring some short videos, so everyone hopped on it. From the few I see, it's tiny segments from Twitch streams or previous longer videos, with nice clickbait-y titles. The creators make a bit more money for doing no extra work, Youtube make more money by selling ads for these minute-long videos, everyone is happy.

Some guy who does brilliant animations based on real audio and moments etc and the story revolves around that. It's incredible stuff.

Isn't it just the tiktok template?

Guy at work said I should look at the #shorts because they were booty shorts twerk vids.
He wasn't far wrong, I reckon.

have we done Stealth Camping? friendly Canadian man possibly too old for YouTube career (but doing nicely on the hits!) takes requests for odd places to be camping. Mostly I just like his easygoing vibe. Here he behind a Home Depot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXlO091nJ1s

^ have seen a few of his. Weird because there isn't really any content and he isn't doing anything dangerous or subversive but I'll watch him for 30 minutes. Oh, here's a little thicket nobody gives a fuck about, I'll try to sleep in it.

Isn't that essentially the same as what happens in the intervals of American Football games, minus the brass instruments?

For the Trekkies, a couple of slight amendments (improvements?) someone has made to Star Trek: Picard:

Bad acting compilations are always good fun, but this REALLY tickled me:

Police interview with Jim from Correct Not Political (he's an anti-vaxxer youtuber, but this is irrelevant here) about an altercation he had with a van driver on a country lane in Stevenage. He suffers from Asperger's I believe and I didn't know anything about his politics when it popped up, it's an interesting watch and feels like a short play.

Thought this was great but not so much his other videos. It's hard to feel sympathy for him when he's deliberately trying to antagonise people. There was a video where he starts filming a guy wearing a dress who's just walking down the road and it just felt a bit wrong to me.

I had no idea that the HSE threatened legal action. Are the HSE actually that toothless that they allowed this shit to go on for ages? Or did they not give an arse?

Fascinating Horror is a great channel and I've followed it for a while. I thought that video would be of particular interest to people here.

It's Youtube's attempt to beat Tiktok at their own game. It's been slowly rolling out since last year, and in July it officially came to the UK.

https://www.musicweek.com/digital/read/youtube-shorts-arrives-in-uk/083678

It potentially applies to any video no longer than 60 seconds and with a portrait aspect ratio (although 1:1 square sizes seem to work as well). Youtube Shorts are also treated differently to standard uploads, in that they get listed separately from your other videos. It'd be nice if tech companies realised how shit portrait videos are for most things, but there you are.

Oooh  a new one.

Shorts are free of ads in america, for now. Mine are filled with people forging things and drilling holes in things.
