Less than 2 minutes in and he's pointing out it's not a hologram, it's just pepper's ghost. This is the content we need.

I confidently believe, in terms of new song quality, this will be the best musical comeback ever (not including The Elvis Comeback Special, as he never really stopped making music).

What other good ones have their been?

Now ABBA have reformed can we also have Legs and Co to make a comeback, to awkwardly dance to the slower songs? And for Noel E. to be given a primetime show so the ABBA can wish him a merry Christmas again? That's probably the whole reason for the Christmas song.

Mention of Legs & Co always brings to mind Ronnie Barker...

I'll take something from ABBA over anything from the likes of Rita Ora or Cardi B any day.

All this chat about Abba (a band I generally only know the greatest hits of) has led me to discover the absolute banger that is "If it Wasn't For The Night"

Any Abba fans have lesser known classics for me to listen to? (other than The Day Before You Came which I'm well acquainted with thanks to Chart Music)

Swans were far better received in their reunion than the original run

what the hell has finally prompted this after decades of 'no we wont do owt new under the ABBA name'?
Money obviously, but I imagine it has hit stratospheric levels as the 60s becomes too far in the past to be the source of ALL the nostalgia. The massive pushes of Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles in recent years as the likes of the Who have slipped into something not far from irrelevance being a good signpost of it.

This is Benny and Bjorn we're talking about. Even their B-sides are a goldmine. I've always had a soft spot for the crazed funk of Lovers (Live a Little Longer).

I think my favourite live performance is this version of Why Did It Have To Be Me?. Frida is like a woman possessed and I think I like it.

Eagle is pretty great and My Love, My Life is an underrated ballad.

thought that was going to be a long slog but it was brilliant.

The most tl;dr point is the motion capture is either going to be a really bad concert because they're going to be stiff and moving around like 70 year olds, or it's utter bullshit and they're using ~20 year old body doubles.

This page seems to be undergoing heavy editing at the moment, a fair few new entries have been added in the past few hours at the top of the list...
Cool. I hadn't realised Shuggie Otis has released a second album

Sebastian Cobb

No mention of Mary Weiss from the Shangri-La's on there, who released an album in 2007 after working professionally as an interior designer/furniture purchaser for decades after the group split.

Taking it chronologically . . .

1974 : "King Kong Song" - a heavy glam stomper - lyrically one of their early daft ones
1974 : "Suzy-Hang-Around" - Final track on the Waterloo album. Kind of heartbreaking. Also notable in being Benny's only lead vocal
1975 : "Bang-A-Boomerang" - another daft one (obviously!)
- - - - - - - - -
The albums from this point on really have no filler - basically any track would have been good enough to release as a single.
- - - - - - - - -
1977 : "One Man, One Woman"
1977 : "Move On"
1979 : "As Good as New"
1979 : "The King Has Lost His Crown"
1979 : "Kisses of Fire"
1979 : "Dreamworld" - unreleased at the time, as they used a bit for "Does Your Mother Know"
1979 : "Lovelight" - non-album B-side
1980 : "Me and I"
1980 : "Our Last Summer"
1982 : "I Am the City" - unreleased at the time, parts of this were recycled into their final single "Under Attack"

Quote"I Am the City" was recorded in May 1982, originally for inclusion on what would have been ABBA's ninth studio album. However, these plans were soon abandoned, the group instead settling for a double-compilation album release of their most successful singles, The Singles: The First Ten Years. As a result of this, "I Am the City" remained unreleased for eleven years until it was first commercially released on the 1993 compilation album More ABBA Gold: More ABBA Hits.

Custard

I made a playlist of the obvious hit singles and some deep cuts recommended by people on here a year or so back, and it was great. Will have to properly delve into the albums one day

Cottonon

Always had a soft spot for People Need Love from their first album Ring Ring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO7ubf4h8sk Despite the sentiment being a bit worn and naff by 1972. Fantastic mix of the yodel backing vocals in the coda.

Also One of Us. The almost comically high mix of the bass line which sort of plumply jogs along beside the song constantly trying to make eye contact with it. It also, like The Winner Takes It All, seems to contain the power play between the now divorced Bjorn and Agnetha, the underlying feeling of him writing specific loaded lines for her to sing. It was only recently I twigged to a possible bitter innuendo in the line 'a big thing or a small, the winner takes it all'.

Also enjoyed the Story of a Heart song Benny and Bjorn wrote for Helen Sojoholm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMg-YV5u8gk

I think My Love, My Life is their greatest tune not to be released as an A-side

And how could I forget Hey Hey Helen. Divorce (glam) pop before the divorces. "Is it worth the pain to see the children cry? Does it hurt when they ask for Daddy?" Oof.

That is a great track but I thought it was "Just Like That" that got bits taken from it for "Under Attack". "I Am the City" was going to be part of their ninth album (not related to the current offering) and I'm sure I used to know the name of what it might be called but can't remember, does anyone out there know? A whole album with the production and energy of "I Am the City" would have been amazing.

'Opus 10'?

QuoteIn June 1981 a journalist from Swedish newspaper Expressen visited and interviewed ABBA in the studio, while they were recording what would become The Visitors album, released in November 1981.

The subsequent published story was titled "Now ABBA Are Recording Their Tenth Album". In the article, he wrote "will Opus 10 now beat them all?", simply using the classical term "opus" to refer to what he calculated was ABBA's tenth album, counting the previous seven studio albums, plus two Greatest Hits volumes (released 1975 and 1979), but disregarding the Spanish language Gracias Por La Música (1980).

Rumours spread through ABBA fan circles that Opus 10 was the working title for The Visitors album, and an instrumental demo recording, actually titled Nationalsång (and later to become Anthem in the Andersson/Rice/Ulvaeus musical Chess[1984]), recorded during The Visitors sessions and subsequently leaked on bootleg cassettes, was rumoured to be the title track.

Years later the rumour morphed into Opus 10 being the title of ABBA's provisional follow up to The Visitors, for which six tracks were recorded in 1982 before ABBA abandoned the album, released the compilation The Singles - The First Ten Years, the singles The Day Before You Came and Under Attack, then took what they said was "a break" which became permanent.

The rumour became so widespread that it was included in many ABBA books, even in Agnetha's authorised bio As I Am.
