I am just listening to bbc radio and they're interviewing an astronaut.

they are talking about all his achievements. first canadian in space. one of only 1000 people to do a spacewalk. spent 150 weeks living on a space station. he talked about seeing planet earth for the first time from space and how this fundamentally changed him as a person, how each time he saw it it became enriched with further meaning and beauty.

now he has written a book. the book is a novel called The Apollo Murders

QDRPHNC

Chris Hadfield has done much to engage and inspire people over the years, if we wants a murder book, let him have a murder book.

At least the prequels tried something new

Nobody's said " Bad Santa" is their favourite Christmas film yet?

nobody says goodbye in films they just hang up. tyler durden rhymes with toilet burden. let's reappraise the aliens film nobody likes.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is the best Mad Max film and Fury Road is the worst with all that CGI and the five minute hair styling scene.

JamesTC

You know he didn't actually say "Luke, I am your father"

The prequels are actually great, you just need to watch 55 hours worth of supplementary Clone Wars cartoons to truly appreciate them.

black and white films are so boring, why don't people go back and colour them in? like citzens kane with the robot controlling the city?

why isn't there a three dimensional film

Jerzy Bondov

They should get like Michael Haneke to do a Marvel film. They should get like Werner Herzog or someone like that, or David Lynch, or fuckin... what's his name... Lars Von Trier. He should do like a Marvel film. Can you imagine? Imagine what it would be like if they got like Gaspar Noe and he did like a Marvel film or something like that. It would be so crazy. Imagine what it would be like if that happened.

JamesTC

Only the even numbered ones are good.

Hex Triplet

Jar Jar Binks is a Sith Lord.
The red R2 D2 deliberately blew itself up.
Yoda is canonically a Gremlin.
There's a family of Robocops in the galactic senate scene in the Phantom Menace.
One of the ewoks killed itself on set and you can see the corpse in the final 'yub yub' scene.

And then they go on about how some Jane Austen adaptation is a real film, completely unaware that all the street scenes are digitally composited and people have spent months carefully photoshopping out all the cars and watches.

Anything anyone has ever said about Christopher Nolan.

Tempted just to post the Sight & Sound letter page. Dec 2021: Has Hollywood run out of original ideas? David Lynch's Dune is underrated. Clockwork Orange. Sight & Sound is good. And on the previous page a film is described in Britain's most respected cinema journal as like something "on acid".

James Bond films are a deeply worthwhile use of everyone's time

If anything the stench of popcorn and endless teenager jabbering actually enhances a movie going experience.

One thing you never realise about Ghostbusters is that it is actually a comedy not a horror film

All those Guardian style columns saying "actually (terrible film) is AMAZING and anyone who didn't like it should be PUT IN PRISON"

Prisoner of Akzaban is the only good Harry Potter film due to the visionary direction of master auteur Alfonso Cuaron

The problem with that film from the past is that it's very dated isn't it?

There are loads of people, including a friend of mine, who are absolutely convinced that everything in The Dark Knight trilogy was done on physical sets, with practical effects and scale models, with no green screen or CGI enhancement as Nolan wanted everything to be properly grounded. As if that's not something you could have easily dismissed after five seconds on Google or also just thinking about the practicalities of it like a fucking adult.

Did you know that Batman was done entirely with a man

They actually burned off half of Aaron Eckhart's face for the film. Everything he's appeared in since has had to replace the burned half with CGI.
