RIP Stephen Sondheim, merrily he rolls along into his grave at the age of 91.
Nobody had him on their 2021 death list, did they?

touchingcloth

No, but I had him on like '16 - '19.

Into the deads.

Gondheim.

Sweeny Dead. The demon barber of Fleet...

Sooner or later ( I always get my man) ( you have to imagine the Grim Reaper singing this).

He's someone whose relatively young age always brings me up short, even now.  It's remarkable that the author of West Side Story was only just into his 90s.

I met Stephen Somdheim at a charity do once. He was incredibly down to his sex dungeon, and very funny.

....or is he losing his life?

(Yes) ( Present Perfect Tense would have been more appropriate, orbviously, but that would have spoilt the song reference).

But into the woods,
  into the woods,
  Into the woods
  to Grandmother's house
  and grave before dark!

I keep seeing pictures on Twitter and thinking Jermaine Clement has died

Did he write any songs called No something? If so No Age

Looking at the Stephen Sondheim page on Wikipedia, and among several surprising things (that letter from his mother! My God!) is the news that he was a major movie buff.  "Movies were, and still are, my basic language."  The Last of Sheila doesn't seem such an aberration now (although the fact that in the 50s he was a writer on a sitcom based on the Topper films still does).  Here is a list of his forty favourite films.  It is probably the most eclectic such list I have ever seen, to the extent that I wonder if he was maybe having a private joke.

The Wiki page also mentions his love of British cryptic crosswords, but doesn't mention that he also occasionally entered The Observer's Ximenes clue-writing competition, which continues today as Azed.

I know there are a few CaBbers who are Azed solvers.
