Quote from: gilbertharding on May 27, 2022, 09:26:21 AMShouldn't the tests have started already? Like - I was definitely at Lord's two weeks ago, a few years back (I remember because it clashed with the FA Cup and my wife's birthday)... What's going on? Not Covid, surely?

In the last two decades or so, the usual practise has been to have the lesser Test series first and start it in mid-May, with the feature series starting in early July. This has gradually eroded with increased amounts of white-ball cricket and money-spinning ODI tours by Australia. We are playing the Dutch at some point this summer in 3 ODIs - why not Ireland or Scotland? Anyhow.

I got into cricket in the early 90s - this was the itinerary of the first series I watched: http://static.espncricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1992/PAK_IN_ENG/ And that was a pretty modest tour by the standards of thirty years prior. I agree, it's hard to give a fuck now. The World Number One test side coming over (like they did last year) to play two test matches (like they did last year), India somehow allowed to play a test match they should have played last year or forfeited. The South Africa series I am looking forward to more because after several years on the register, they do now appear to be solid men with healthy sexual interests.

NZ are playing Scotland later on in the summer in a few T20s, one of which happens to be on my birthday, which I'll try to get to.

I did enjoy Lancs v Yorks last night, despite Lancs godawful fielding.  But not so bad they got Root out for 3.

That Pakistan was the second series I experienced, we got thrashed so badly it's a wonder I retained any interest in the sport.

I remember the heritage tache players such as Miandad and Malik and how brutal Wasim and Waqar were.

On the England side I think Neil Mallender shone briefly and was discarded for some reason.

Quote from: shoulders on May 26, 2022, 06:47:23 AMI don't see how it would be workable even if you tried. Commercial and public interest in 4 day domestic cricket is relatively low. Not that it is hated or disliked, I think more people would follow it if it received attention. There should be a weekly CC match screened on terrestrial TV throughout the summer.

Yes cant see how it would be a stretch to stick a game on the iPlayer/red button.

Hey, there's Brendon! He's a young guy; he listens to the Stereophonics, he rides a scooter... let's see how far I can push him!

It's not all about results says Broad

1 test win in 17

Inspector Norse

TEAM ANNOUNCED

Potts to debut and bat 8. That's a tail and a half. Really wish Broad hadn't been allowed to down tools with the bat.

Today's the day lads

After the controversy about Lords struggling to sell tickets for today, it's understood that England have made a generous offer to let children in for free to fill the empty seats. They're even being offered personal tours of the dressing rooms and showers during the lunch interval.

Thursday

Controversial opinion, but I think he's better at bowling than Woakes or Overton

Inspector Norse

This new management team have shown incredible out-of-the-box thinking selecting this bowling attack. Nobody could have predicted that these two would perform.

Thursday

Interesting tactical decision to not drop catches at slip, but it's working well so far.

The old management team didn't.

Thursday

We should let Root be captain again for the tail to give them a chance.

Inspector Norse

Reckon this lad might be a bit better than Craig Overton too.

Still, looking at that England batting line-up I reckon we'll be seeing at least 25 wickets today.

Never doubted anything about this new era whatsoever. Arise, Sir Rob Key.

Thursday

I don't want to get overexcited because of a good debut when New Zealand are clearly having a bad morning. But I think Potts might be the greatest English Bowler of all time.

until Parkinson skittles them in the second innings. Just think, all it took for him to finally get called up for his debut was Jack Leach getting decapitated by a boundary rope.

Thursday

I hope he can arrive before England get bowled out.

Inspector Norse

Given that tickets are supposedly £100 a pop, I'm fascinated by what is obviously a hobo sat right behind Athers there.

Harry Badger

New Netflix documentary being rushed into production: "Evil Behind The Fern" where a group of simple, honest Kiwi cricketers get dragged into a sinister world of child trafficking and illegal pornography.

Inspector Norse

Hurrah, another broken fast bowler!

They've injured so many they've had to bring on a 12-year-old as sub.

Robin Das I think? I fear for him when Overton asks for his opinion on Brexit sadly.

Thursday

Right then, time for the batters to ruin everything.
