Ambient Sheep: Oh, what a shame, was looking forward to Alonso getting right up there in the way of the big boys. :-(

This you?

;)

Well obviously, given same handle and same avatar. :-)

EDIT: Oh I see, the Beeb have quoted my original tweet in their live updates. :-)

Second time that's happened.

Somehow I don't think they would have done so had I gone with my original wording of "...getting right up there to fuck shit up!"

Blumf

Interesting tactic by Albon, nursing the tyres for the whole race and pitting at the finish for the required change. Got him a point.

Elsewhere, there was a nasty crash at Goodwood with a Frazer Nash chain drive car. Not much detail yet.

Wonderful Butternut

Classy responses from classy people about Grosjean running a Pride livery for the Indy 500.

Dunno about you guys, but when I'm watching motorsport I definitely think "Glad this is all really hetero and it would certainly ruin the tradition if there was a pride flag somewhere" to myself.

Twats.

I hope he wins and turns everyone in the state of Indiana gay.

Blumf

Love it.

"Not the way they're promoting the rainbow. The wrong way. The way of the devil"

As opposed to the "Soz for genociding most of humanity" rainbow Jehovah gave us.

Wonderful Butternut

Big bottle job by Leclerc there.

9 laps left though. Plenty of time for two Red Bull Hybrid Power Trains to explode.

Blumf

"Sorry your car sucks worse than George's."

Not sure who Audi would buy, williams have been back markers for a few years now, maybe them?

shoulders

Unless either Audi or Porsche make their own team rather than picking at the remains of former privateers they can fuck off.

Bently Sheds

The last time the grid was full of manufacturers it didn't end well when Honda, BMW & Toyota all pulled out. It nearly crippled the grid.

Plus, I don't see the value in promoting your range of ever increasingly electrified cars in a sport running ICE power units.

They've been running hybrid power units for a while now, and it seems like they're aiming for 50% of the power being electric for the next engine regs in a couple of years, which is part of what attracted Porsche & Audi.

Ambient Sheep

Plus 100% sustainable fuel for the ICE.  Apparently that was a non-negotiable condition of them entering.

Miami this weekend, new track:

Doesn't look too bad. Close in barriers around a lot of the track, street style, but opens up on many of the big corners.

Bently Sheds

F1 has always sold itself out to whatever regime waves the biggest wad of cash at it, but the way it's currently whoring itself out to Miami is embarrassing.

Ambient Sheep

For those of you who follow the BBC Radio coverage, the race coverage tomorrow starts unusually early: 8.05pm for the 8.30pm race (normally anywhere between 0 and 15m before).

Seems it will be on the main Radio 5 Live, rather than 5 Live Sports Extra.

Wonderful Butternut

If they actually have Seb on to talk politics, he'll probably dismantle everyone in the room.

Ambient Sheep

Yup, well I assume he is, climate-change in particular I expect.  First time an F1 driver has ever been on it.

I just hope that if some audience cretin goes on about F1 not being very climate-friendly, he not only trots out the stuff about F1 engines being the most fuel-efficient in the world, but also that stat that Joe Saward likes to point out: that the most damaging-to-climate sport in the world is actually the Tour de France, because of all the petrol burnt by the hundreds of thousands of spectators who go to line the route.  Puts all the air freighters that F1 uses to shame, apparently.

Will be the first one I've watched in about 20 years.

Blumf

Will her be wearing his grundies on the outside for his QT appearance?

QuoteFormer F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, however, called Hamilton and Vettel's protests "childish".

Misery guts.

Ambient Sheep

This is fucking hilarious.  All that hype for one of the most boring races in ages.

Wonderful Butternut

That fucking podium ceremony.

Policecunt motorbike escort for the drivers (just as well Hamilton wasn't on the podium today, they'd have probably shot him) and fucking American football helmets once on the podium.

Also is Willy T. Ribbs ok? He sounded like he was struggling to get his remaining brain cells to fire when he was doing the pre-podium ceremony interviews.

I turned off halfway through the Shitty Goldberg tribute. hope they got lost like Spinal Tap at some point

Poor checo (I don't know how to spell his nickname but I mean Perez) was robbed yesterday. Looks like the mercs are close to being back.

Blumf

Was watching the highlights. Is it my imagination, or have they stopped showing the lap times on the race position table? I know they've don't show on the Formula E tedium, where they're at least bunched up most the time, but on a F1 race, lap times are useful info.

Not sure if he was quite robbed of the win, though wasn't given the opportunity battle it. Was totally outpaced by Max. So a case of let them full on battle or play it safe for the team.

shoulders

Doing that so early into the season is awful and against the interests of the sport. Perez deserved the chance to fight it out.

Of course the guy literally doesn't give a fuck, just happy to have lucked into a fast seat by being a reliable patsy.

I think he had enough time to pit and still stay ahead of Max when he got the call (don't quote me on this), also Max had no or intermittent DRS so even if Perez came out behind he could have battled and probably won with new tyres. He wasn't outpaced when he did finally get new tyres, he got the fastest lap after all. But yeah, I agree the team is always going to play it safe.

Talking of a reliable patsy I'm pleased Bottas is doing well so far.
