I blame Arctic Monkeys for all of this.
They have a lot to answer for. First we had shit Libertines copyists, now we have shit Arctic Monkeys copyists.

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Lathams at no.1 in  the album charts, lads.

You can blame them for the inexplicable popularity of the despicable Miles Kane, but all this (gestures to the thread) is not on them. If they were still doing chip shop rock then maybe but they're now singing about hotels on the moon and alienating a good majority of their fans.

And they got much better once they started singing about hotels on the moon and doing weird psychedelic videos with Chris Waddle in them.

Fucking hell "Gerry Cinnamon".
I gather there's feeling among some hardcore indy types (the scottish indy, not the genre indy)  that legend Gerry used the Yes movement to build a following then dropped them like hot shit as soon as he didn't need them. Or he doesn't sing his indy song anymore, or he won't play any benefits for them. Fuck knows. I do know he came into my local about 2 years ago with a gaggle of other landfill lads with Weller hair ("Jake Bugg" was, I believe, among their number -  I seem to recall they had a gig at Leith town hall), and bragged loudly about being barred from attending Celtic games before knocking a whole table of pints over the old man who sits in the corner.

I mean that these bands (etc, don't want to say artists) sound like they were inspired by the chip shop stuff and decided to run it into the ground.

That's OK then.

Meant to follow up the 'how did I know that Red Dress was an elaborate joke' by posting the BBC interview with its Oxford-educated maker: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-58047513

A while back I was working as a taxi driver, and there was a period where every single coked up Stone Island clad human timebomb would loudly extol the virtues of one Gerald Cinnamon to me and demand I let them hijack the Bluetooth. I complied precisely once, and the lucky passenger started bellowing "YASSSSSSSSSSS" at the top of his lungs and clapping about eight times faster than the actual tempo of the song.

From a brief listen to some of his music he seems to produce slightly shitey indie acoustic stuff, but his resonance with nutcases and his fucking face means I'll always have a lasting unfair dislike for him. Plus, Cinnamon. Git tae fuck.

EDIT: Also The Chaos Engine is a classic.

At least Neil Breen isn't making his movies as an elaborate joke, or some sort of psychological experiment. Every time I find one of these out - to be honest, hers was so odd that a lot of people rumbled it straight away - I get sad.

Meet Noisy

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-58912590

They get £25,000 worth of gear nicked from their van. They find it online. They buy back a guitar for £2,200. They then tell the fellow selling it "All of that is ours" and he gives them the rest of it for the £3,000 he paid for it from "someone".

Originally I thought they were unsigned but they just haven't released an album yet.

So long story short- They've got a new single out today.

Here's an old single of theirs. To quote their managements write up on them

Quote...what a sound it is: fat, glitchy, lunging from pop one minute to rap and jungle the next. "There were no boundaries anymore," says Cody, of the band's blossoming from indie kids to flickering genre shufflers. "We didn't know what we wanted to do. We didn't know what we were. So we could just do anything. And it's still like that now."

It sounds like East 17.

No band called Noisy are ever going to be good, are they?

Not clicked the link but I'm expecting a watered-down Busted.

imitationleather

Okay I couldn't resist and clicked the link.

Sounds like it was designed to be on a FIFA loading screen.

This is actually an aspiration for some young musicians. No, really.

QuoteHer anthem Two Seater features on this year's edition of the game and she admits it's one of the "five things" she wanted to achieve when she started making music.

"I remember when we made it, I thought it sounded like a Fifa tune at the time. When it came out, I had a lot of comments with people saying the same."

cunts stuck in my head. i really do think there's an attempt to appeal to the toddler market with the video though

idunnosomename

i looked up a undubbed live performance and he really does just play bits and the rest is obviously on a backing track. why doesnt the cunt get himself a band so he can actually play an actual live performance? why would you pay to see some cunt playing karaoke? does he have a wire (rather than a radio pack) just to emphasise he's REALLY PLAYING SOME OF THE BITS YEAH. likely story, hes probably miming everything except the vocals

Ned Sheeran.

Hats off to the comments on that one.

This got brought to my attention earlier.

The vocals were described as "unique".  That's one for word for it, I suppose.  Jesus fucking Christ.

And it sounds like he starts the song by shouting "MAUREEEEN!!".

Far be it from me to defend this busking bell-end, but he's clearly playing with a loop pedal and overdubbing himself live (you can see him stomp in it every time he plays another guitar part)

Something that was pretty cool when KT Tunstall first used one around 20 years ago but horribly passé as it's now the exclusive domain of endless fucking Sheeran clones.

Hang on, hang on... there's already been a band called Coast To Coast.
