You'd think with all this raging, with Labour sinking further in the polls, this might be a good time to mount a leadership challenge.

I have an idea they may be challenging him to suspend them.  It's a hill he richly deserves to die on.

Talking of MF, he tweeted this:

I guess if you are as successful and well-connected as him (Spitting Image, show on Dave and regular radio shows must pay well) you can regard things like workers' rights, climate change and welfare benefits as "fringe issues", but they aren't "fringe" for most people in the UK.

lol I saw that earlier in a thread of all the commentators saying the speech was wonderful next to a poll of Lab -2.

Writing for The Sun has to be done (apparently), it's in the 'Labour are serious' playbook - an easy-to-follow ten step guide to turn your hapless dullard into an eminently electable, profoundly serious PM-in-waiting.

I was popping in to say Keir Starmer is still more Ed Miliband than Tony Blair, and that reminded me that Ed Miliband also did his shameful Sun photoshoot which got him - absolutely nowhere at all.

There's keeping your enemies close and there's not realising the true power imbalance. You don't keep your enemies close when they can rip you to shreds then toy absently with their prey. You build a fort to defend yourself and an army to fight them with and you send out the best outriders you have to broadcast to other people that the enemy is a fucking cunt.

This is where the whole 'grownups in the room' idea comes from, because the melts in Labour don't realise that there is no bargaining and no compromise with the Sun, or any of the other pillars of the establishment that works for ordinary people, and also don't realise Labour's own capacity and potential to confront those foes. They think only the grown ups realise we can't fight international capitalism, just tweak it a bit until it goes kaput again and we get the blame anyway.

Sebastian Cobb

Dunno about the milliband assertion really, from what I can tell milliband wanted to be more leftwing but got it walked by by ed balls, starmer seems to be out-torying the tories, I'm not sure if he believes in anything, I'm not sure it matters, he's doing it because he mistakenly thinks it's the easiest route to success.

Buelligan

I don't even think he's doing it for that reason.  I think he's a man with no morals, no empathy, no understanding of others.  He does what powerful people tell him to do because it's worked for him so far and he doesn't give a fuck or even think, about anybody else.

He's not really what you'd call a leader.

Bear in mind the Blairites are furious that Keith has been too milquetoast and Milibandine so far, along with failing in the polls, up to the point where they are totally losing interest to the point of potentially reprising a tactic used against Corbyn, to effectively suicide bomb Labour.

From our point of view, Starmer is doing exactly everything you say and that's how it comes across to a regular left leaning person as that's exactly what's happening.

That's how fucking psychopathic and beyond help Blairites are.

I hope they decide to challenge Starmer, but I think they would rather the left got its hands dirty so they didn't come across as the agitators.

Forde and his ilk pretend to be the "grown ups in the room" yet when they have their party back they show they have no ideas of their own. They just resort to bullying and attacking the Left, who aren't in control of the Party anymore.

QuoteWhile there was nothing illegal about the transaction, and there is no evidence the Blairs proactively sought to avoid stamp duty, the deal highlights a loophole that has enabled wealthy property owners not to pay a tax that is commonplace for many ordinary property buyers in the UK.

'There was nothing illegal' I can't stress that enough.

Coming straight after the historic speech telling us we should celebrate the man's achievements is slightly unfortunate.

I don't see the point any more. Even if Starmer fucked off, even if we got a left winger in post, the party is so rotten and riddled with cunts, and the current electorate so fucking gormless or selfish.  He needs to crash his ship and then let's see what we can salvage. Did Corbyn ever say anything about banning Labour MPs from having monetary interests or funding apart from their wage? Is there anywhere that publishes a list of who is getting what backhanders from whom? Would love to see a future leader outlaw this. It's astonishing that any but particularly Labour MPs are allowed to take money from people like the water industry.

This I will keep saying. If you want the next Brexit style movement disrupting the status make it about Westminster corruption and electoral reform, Take Back Control 2. The next round of cannon fire across the bows. See who shits their pants and how hard (on both sides of the house).

Clear cross-party appeal that will chime with the simmering discord among the general public.

Either we do it or the far right get there first (albeit the Reform Party have been far too insular and have even attempted to veil their real interests which are absolutely not to clean up Westminster).

You don't listen to BBC Comedy because of BBC News?

The News Quiz is incapable of stepping outside the framing of BBC News. I stopped listening to it during the Corbyn years because it just didn't know what to do with him and fell into line repeating the same weak blue tick talking points I'd seen dozens of times on twitter anyway. That and the guest host thing that was also the final nail in the coffin for HIGNFY.

I truly hate Matt Forde. That interview he did where he said that corbyn being elected was the most shameful moment in Labour history. He blocked me when I pointed out that only a fat, unfunny, right wing cunt like himself would think that a socialist being democratically elected by the membership (twice) is worse than the Iraq war. Gah I hate him so much. I want Labour to get 25% in the next election just to jam it into his fat fucking face.

He is so obviously a Tory who can't admit to that because of the business he is in.

He's the only guy in the Labour party to the right of Luke Akehurst.

Pink Gregory

he easily could be openly Tory.  Doesn't seem to hurt Geoff Norcott, though I hear that Norcott actually has the ability to, you know, do...comedy?  Which is more than can be said for Morde.

Heard him on some podcast before. Seems to have been bought up in very Anti-Tory environment. Then when Blair and Mandelson came along he realised he could keep the Anti-Tory badge while still just having Tory policies.

Buelligan

Lest we forget, 85 years today -

Fatt Morde is such a vapid, unfunny cunt, isn't he. I've just seen his recent Spitting Image misstep, and as well as a bizarre and unnecessary reference to Jess Phillips' tits, there's this bizarre take:

Fuck knows why kieth is a superhero called Fox Man - If you want to find that out you'll have to watch it yourselves. I thought the glorious leader had done away with all the bad rubbish, and the grown ups were back in charge though.

Sebastian Cobb

Mentions her fanny too.

I thought it was on some level a good sign that 'the melts' are losing faith in him. But I also found the framing of Phillips weird, that he's still a leftie candidate and she's pressuring him to be more 'centrist' (i.e. right wing). Perhaps she is the right to him a bit, but not markedly so and Starmer seems to be attacking the left and shifting rightwards anyway. Doesn't make any fucking sense.

They've also @d both Starmer and Phillips' Twitter accounts to make sure both of them see it.

Sebastian Cobb

he'll be off the centrist roll call if he's not careful.

olliebean

Honestly, I'd never have guessed who either of those Spitting Image puppets were supposed to be if they hadn't prominently announced their names. Are all the puppets and voices in the new series that unrecognisable?

Buelligan

Heheh, me neither.  Spitting Image has really had its century anyway.

I'm delighted that Forde is getting torn apart by the Twitter responses.

Fambo Number Mive

Apparently they also showed Angela Merkel topless during the "G20 love island sketch".

Cancelled my Britbox subscription. Would advise anyone else who subscribes to Britbox to do the same.

That's the funniest thing about it. Loads of people saying they can't stand Philips but that the sketch is horrible.

ZoyzaSorris

Wow, that really is astonishing. It is practically art, bordering on mesmerising in its self-parodic skewering of alt-centrist comedy, almost Lynchian in its dreamlike formulation of an ultimate anti-comedic mirror-world. But also completely unwatchable.

That twitter thread has cheered me right up, page after page after page of hilarious replies ripping it to tiny little bits.
