Andrew Marr did a good pre-conference interview with a woman repping the Marshall Islands.  She politely and articulately explained how they are already suffering and going beyond 1.5 is not really an option.  We also had Joe Biden taking a quick nap and Greta Thunberg addressing a rally with a lively speech.  She never shies away from the truth, does she?

jobotic

We also had Johnson, quite possibly pissed, sleeping next to David Attenborough and not wearing a mask. Facking ledge.

Is this the ADAM 12 reboot series?

Mr_Simnock

I like all the piss week posturing to get something done about it, all the calling other nations to stop polluting, all the promises for of action decades down the line when they are not around, the fiddling while rome burns is almost glorious in it's obvious show of the power of lobbying.

Exactly, a prime minister who actually cared about climate change would take effective and drastic steps within the UK to make a difference no matter what other countries were doing.

Whereas instead we make it cheaper to fly within the UK and look set to approve another coal fired power station.

And dump literal shit in the literal rivers.

Indeed, and then people say "oh why don't you go to China and campaign there they pollute more" while not reflecting how China has 1.1. billion people and we only have 67 million. I think each person in China pollutes far less than each person in the UK.

Also forgetting that most of the stuff we buy is made in China, so they are literally polluting on our behalf.

And also that China is making massive steps towards greening and sustainability.

I don't thnk the Cinese government is a great bunch of lads in any way whatsoever, but they're doing a lot more to mitigate climate change and pollution than most Western countries.

By building large numbers of new coal-fired power stations?

Interesting speculation here as to why Johnson may be so sleepy

EDIT: similar to Jobotic's speculation though.

QuoteAs well as talking about coal, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng is asked about whether Boris Johnson should have taken a private flight to London from Glasgow on Tuesday following his time at COP26.

Kwarteng said that there had been 120 world leaders in Glasgow and "many of them flew back"...

Pressed on why he could not go by train for a journey within the UK, a spokesman said it was important he was able to travel round the country while facing "significant time constraints".

I think you'll find most of the other world leaders had to travel a bit further away than London, Mr Kwarteng.

It's 4 hours 39 minutes from Glasgow Central to London Euston, can Johnson not do his work online during that time? Will the country really grind even further to a halt if the Prime Minister is on a train or 4 hours 39 minutes?

That's where I read it!

I was simply passing on someone else's theory as my own. Simple as that.

There's also the factor of him being a lazy fat cunt.

Also ignoring that a lot of the pollution in China is the result of the west shifting its production into a cheaper environment with laxer environmental standards and adding a load of extra pollution via long supply lines.

Campaigners lead by Global Witness have found that 503 people with links to fossil fuel interests had been accredited for the climate summit, according to the BBC.

That makes more delegates at COP26 associated with the fossil fuel industry than from any single country.

Just thought I'd leave this here -

I am getting really tired of the Facebook memes about how Greta and Co don't realise their parents and elders had to run about fields and play with sticks when they were children. While today's kids have so many luxorious electrical appliances and lots of travel, although maybe the old days were better.

And implying that it is the children of today who are forcing all the pollution on the world as a result.

is this sociopath strike-breaking cunt really fooling anyone.

I for one am very angry at the climate. It should keep its sodding mouth shut. Bastard.

Sturgeon gave AOC some Irn Bru, causing a libgasm that showed up on the seismographs as another tunguska event. Scottish politics has for the most part treated the whole thing as an opportunity to show the world's leaders how braw cranachan is and how there's a full marching pipe band at every dinner here. Meanwhile they've done their best to portray the binmen's strike as being entirely orchestrated by Scottish Labour (who at the same time can't get it together to tie their own shoelaces) to make them look bad, and allowed the pigs to go kettle crazy on any and all demonstrators as they see fit. It's been a right old laugh.

seeing as Obama has at least some measure of personal responsibility for the election of Jair Bolsonaro, he should be as welcome at climate events as a river of shit

Trump takes the US out of the Paris agreement for less than a year and a half, America's national shame boo fascist killing the earth. Tacitly supporting burning down half the Amazon because of racist Kissinger-era superstitions about South American socialism is just fine for liberals though, not gonna make sick Twitter dunks about that

the reason Bolsonaro will never be tried for crimes against humanity inc attempted genocide is because our enlightened progressive superiors put him in the position to do it and are fine with it now so long as he only does a little bit more and not a lot more

chveik

biden sleeping through the event is even less offensive that this demagogical shite.

I didn't realise footballers flew to domestic matches, I assumed they chartered a coach. Interesting article on how and why they fly: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59213173

None of us alive today were able to witness the beginnings of life on earth.  It now seems ever more likely that we'll be lucky enough to see it's end.  Always an upside!

'we need to spend on the military in order to keep the migrants at bay'

A while back The Pentagon issued an analysis into climate change and what to do about it. Their predictions of the disaster seemed to be reasonable in the sense they didn't downplay anything. Their conclusion on what to do about it was essentially grab all the resources we can and stock up on weapons.

The MOD did one too.

The deeply concerning part being of course these people transcend government and have control over our politicians. So god knows how that one gets fixed.
