Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Quote from: phantom_power on May 13, 2022, 12:43:31 PMI find her blase, incredibly affected voice really annoying and I am not quite sure why as there are probably examples of both those things in bands that I like

I think she's trying to sound vaguely Scandinavian.

I had to check she wasn't and found out she is from the fucking Isle of Wight

Rhian Teasdale is from Liverpool originally. Her family moved to the Isle Of Wight when she was 8.

Still, she can take her place in the Isle of Wight Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside three quarters of Level 42 and David Steele (bassist from the Beat/Fine Young Cannibals).

Famous Mortimer

Viagra Boys are great, but they don't seem in the same sort of field as Wet Leg to me. Although who knows.

They definitely aren't. Thick and heavy groove laden rock that takes a lot of cues from Butthole Surfers, quite a stretch from the kooky twee dribble of Wet Leg.

Goldentony

i'm afraid they're in the same venn diagram of damp jeans

Hadn't thought of butthole surfers in relation to them, that's a good shout. The really, really sound like Jesus lizard to me also

Gurke and Hare

I've just looked at a picture of Viagra Boys and I'm afraid every single one of them is clearly a cunt. Sorry.

Head Gardener

good to see Simon Love of this parish is getting one over on the Wet Leg beat combo #1 in the un-herd music blog

JaDanketies

Noticed The Regrettes were playing Glasto, so checked to see if they were touring and saw they're in my city with the mighty WET LEG and headliner Foals so quickly grabbed a ticket, well amped

Kankurette

Anyone see them at Primavera? I wasn't arsed, I was off waiting for Shellac.

JaDanketies

Wet Leg and The Regretted cancelled today so it was Foals and Yard Act, and we took mdma and bailed a few songs into Yard Act. £100 to the aether (for two tickets) but we'll have a better night at home, we can take more drugs here and get naked

The Mollusk

Didn't know you were into drugs mate, kept that quiet

Bennett Brauer

'We are the Pipettes
And we've got no regrets
If you haven't noticed yet
We're the prettiest girls you've ever met'

Is that Wet Leg?

Luornu

I would not like to have someone assigned to butter my muffin.

JaDanketies

Radio 6 really hammering these guys again.

They're touring the UK in a few months so I can make up for the cancellation, but I'm not totally sure. The Regrettes were also a big draw for me

That's an understatement. I have a habit of switching 6music on when making lunch, which is approx 20mins of my day. It's been a regular occurrence for the last few weeks that Being in Love will be played in that time. Unsure if that's just the time they like to play it in the day or if it's on close to constant rotation.

It's a bit of a shame as it was the clear standout song on the album for me but familiarity is working its usual dull magic.

I listen to Radio 6 pretty much continually from 9am to 530pm most days unless they put on some shit or keep playing the same song over and over again, and they have been playing it two or three times a day over the last few working weeks(?!), although it doesn't surprise me that they play it at the same time every day.

I'm decided that "Too Late Now" is my favourite song from their debut, I like the spacey vibe

Goldentony

this isnt wet leg but its adjacent because its dying horse shit with teeth in but Yard Act were on BBC 6 yesterday with that Elton John tune that sounds like Baz Luhrmann doing The Fall and honestly just fuck off all of you, stop making music

Jim_MacLaine

Ugh, I saw Yard Act on the BBC Glastonbury coverage.

A load of BIMM students fronted by a bored DWP advisor.

JaDanketies

Yard Act were who replaced Wet Leg and The Regrettes at the Foal gig me and my fiancee bailed on. Foals would've been okay but I was there for the support

imitationleather

A mate of mine said he likes Yard Act on Facebook. I died a little inside but he's in a band so probably knows them and no doubt has to say that by law.

Still, though. Imagine liking Yard Act. You can't, can you?

dontpaintyourteeth

They're shit but they're still not as shit as Idles

amateur

Yard Act have one good song, the name of that song is Dark Days.

It's okay to enjoy that song but not worth bothering with the rest.

Goldentony

that cant possibly be true, please nobody fall for that one

non capisco

Any interview I've seen with those two out of Wet Leg they constantly appear to be feigning suppressed laughter over fuck all.
