Quote from: RHX on March 18, 2022, 11:07:43 PMShow ran about 35 minutes longer than the advertised 9:30 finish tonight so anyone planning on scheduling transport just be aware of that!

Great show mind, with the exception of the audience member trying to make themselves the centre of attention for most of it (and I think they were also part of the on stage Q&A which made for an awkward few minutes)

She was sat in the row behind me for the second half and it was awful. At one point she was just having a conversation with her friend and the woman next to them hissed "If you're going to chat, fuck off somewhere else".

Everyone around us was delighted when her misquote of "Mr Show" fell flat and she was clapped off the stage.

Strangely, someone about 4 rows in front of us was escorted out halfway through the second half. She didn't look happy and stomped all the way out.

...so he doesn't like disco but he loves Oasis? Oh sorry lovely cheeky twinkly Bob, we're over ;)

Watched the live stream while having a little siesta at my hotel in Amsterdam. I submitted a daft question asking if he'd ever encountered a Chicago toilet rat, and then thought "Oh gawd, I hope Rob Delaney doesn't actually ask him that", and then felt relieved when "HELLO, I'M A PAEDOPHILE" woman showed up and misquoted Mr. Show in the worst possible way. After The Bob had been talking about how much he loves swearing it was funny to see him flummoxed by that, and then pretty much give her the hook in the nicest possible way. I think I cringed my entire viscera out.

Great couple of hours of entertainment, will rewatch in the seven days while I still can!

That lady from the audience making a tit of herself was incredible. I mean to be fair the format of having people come up to read something they've had no time to prepare is dicey in itself and you're guaranteed to get some stunted awkwardness (I thought the whole thing was flat tbh and my least favourite part of the the evening) but she went fully the opposite direction, it was so embarrassing.

Otherwise I loved the whole thing. Hearing him talk about just plugging away at material even if you know it will probably fail and also accepting his own failures was massively humbling and inspirational to me, it made me so happy to hear that coming from one of my biggest heroes.

My friend said he thought he was playing to the gallery giving Oasis a mention but I reminded him there's a whole Mr Show sketch parodying them so him finding a bizarre inspiration in their music was amusing but not all too surprising.

This is the third time I've bumped into CaBber Squidy at a gig (The Residents, Eric Andre), we have such good taste! Always good to see you mate if you're reading this.

Quote from: Menu on January 20, 2022, 09:02:01 PMDon't forget, he's also a big Bill Oddie fan!

(God I really hope it's not Bill Oddie)

I was amused when he inevitably Mentioned The Goodies.

I never saw that parody as affectionate- I guess it was! In any case he's a massive anglophile so it's not that surprising that he likes Oasis (and the Stone Roses).

Still, "then disco happened, and I didn't like that", coming from someone who was right there in 70's Chicago... GODDAMMIT Bob! ;)

So the next two people I am seeing live (Bob Odenkirk and Stewart Lee) are both surprising Oasis fans?

THERE ARE LITERALLY DOZENS OF US!!

Ron Superior

Always thought it was really odd that in Run Ronnie Run when they got a load of their favourite comedy people at the party like Gary Shandling, KITH, Trey & Matt etc, they had David fucking Baddiel there. Always thought that was such a random choice.

Did she really open with that (misquoting the 'Sex Offender' sketch)? I want to hear more about this embarrassment. Did she keep talking? And how did Bob get her to shut up?

Even worse than that- she opened by stating her name. Presumably her real name. Just a massive attempt at attention seeking that went very badly wrong. Even asking "Where do you get your ideas from?" would have been less embarrassing.

PS: I am posting this from near the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. I shall ask it if it's any relation.

She was asked up because she raised her hand and volunteered herself to read one of his amusing pre-written questions. As I mentioned earlier this doesn't really work unless they gave the questions to the audience members beforehand so it looked natural and not literally "read this question to me and I'll answer it". Anyway.

She was very drunk, started off by badly quoting that sketch, and then strayed further from the script and said she had more questions to ask. Bob was a bit like "uhh okay well please just read out that one" which she did. But she kept going afterwards and Bob resorted to a sort of snarky "didn't she do well folks?" tactic and clapped to get the audience to applaud her off. A stage hand then walked on and lead her off the stage. I was cringing my arse inside out, it was great.

SweetPomPom

The Covid paranoia of everyone constantly backing away from her for the duration of her time on stage was a lovely addition to the painfulness of it all.

My question that didn't get asked...

Could other people hear her laughing too hard in a "LOOK AT ME" way from where they were sat?

I could hear someone cheering and clapping way too hard and way too much at everything, even stuff that didn't necessarily need a round of applause. Was that her? It definitely came from the direction she walked up from but I feel like while it is likely to have been the same person, it's unfair of me to assume.

SteveDave

It was her. She wasn't there in the first half or if she was, the pills didn't kick in til the second half.

SweetPomPom

She was def there beforehand, noticed the 4 of them by the stack of books.
Couldn't hear her from our side for the most part, enjoyed her walk of shame back to her seat though - long way round in front of everyone.

Anyone want to meet up for a drink after the Lowry do tomorrow? If the Lowry don't have an overpriced bar open then Dockyard will.

Blue Jam

Have fun mj, and don't do any pills beforehand ;)

mjwilson

Audience participation was a bit more successful today.

GolazoDan

Enjoyed it today! First time at the Lowry in many a year. Probably gonna try and get some tix for auld Stew there next year, planning ahead.

mjwilson

Nice tribute to The Royle Family from Bob - he said it was his favourite TV show and that it was nice to be able to say that to a Manchester audience, as nobody else would have known what he was talking about.

(He didn't even get booed for calling it a Manchester audience.)

Blue Jam

mjwilson

Is it bad if I say that I didn't recognise him and have already forgotten his name?

GolazoDan

It was Rick Edwards off of T4. He's apparently done other things since that but that's just what Wikipedia told me. One of them Richard Bacon clones.

JamesTC

Bob delighted in delivering some Beatles anecdotes here in Liverpool. He opened by asking a member of the audience to represent Liverpool and asked if we could finally decide who was better between The Beatles and The Monkees. He also told a story about meeting George Harrison while working on SNL and Al Franken closed the piano cover on him saying he always wanted to do it to a Beatle.

He also enjoyed Manchester getting a pantomime boo when he mentioned he'd just come from there. He also threw in what I'm pretty sure was supposed to be an Oasis reference, for those keeping track.

For some reason, it was just all very surreal to be about 2 and a half metres away from Bob Odenkirk. Really good seats at the side of the front row.

Blue Jam

Oooh, who was the host in Scouseland? Peter Serafinowicz?

Just got home and opened my signed copy from Waterstones and the signature is on a bookplate-type sticker thing. Anyone else got that? I suppose it makes sense for a US author to just send a load of stickers across the Atlantic, and it must be more practical and environmentally friendly than signing and shipping big stacks of hardbacks, I've just never seen that done before. Whatever, there's probably still a decent amount of Bob's DNA on there a signed edition is a lovely thing to have. As much as I love my Kindle a hard copy with a squiggle beats an NFT.

Can't remember her name. She was a young woman who I think they said worked with the University of Liverpool or the School of Performing Arts. Don't know if she is known or not.

Yeah, the Liverpool moderator was from the University of Liverpool - the other UK events (with their fancy, big name hosts) were put on by Fane, but this was by Waterstones.

Any CABers at the Ely ting last night?
