"Is that an email?"

I think I have fallen in love with the judge.

Some very apt auto-captioning

Curb theme is more obvious but I keep expecting the Meaning of Life fish to swim in over the screen

Quote from: Mobius on August 03, 2022, 10:34:41 PMI remember the first time I saw Alex Jones, it was on an old Jon Ronson documentary about secret organisations. Think they went trapsing through some woods looking for the Skull & Bones club. He seemed alright back then, but then I also liked David Icke at the time..
Secret Rulers of the World. They manage to infiltrate Bohemian Grove and come away convinced that it's a devil/owl worshipping occult ritual, and not a bunch of rich cunts having a weirdly elaborate piss up. Rather like David Icke in another episode, Jones does come across, early as it is in his career, only mildly unhinged*, and given the events at Waco and Ruby Ridge (also the subject of an episode), somewhat justified in his paranoia.

*until the last scene of the doc where he rants to the camera as he's driving. Then it's pretty clear he's a psycho.

From what was said in that clip, there were also steps he could have taken to make the leak inadmissible, but he didn't.  Something about the way he's sort of slumped in his chair, head lolling back, staring at the ceiling makes me think he's already decided to fuck this whole career off after this case.

JamesTC

Strong Glinner vibes from him suggesting all his emails are dictated to an assistant.

Sebastian Cobb

His lawyer does seem a bit of a card himself.

QuoteUnbelievable.

Alex Jones' lawyer just closed his argument in the Sandy Hook defamation case with German pastor Martin Niemöller's "First they came for the socialists... Then they came for the Jews..." prose poem.

Again, this was Alex Jones' lawyer.

Jones was also stressing that he was popular with leftwingers during the early part of his career and described his extreme views as "devils advocating". Reckon they thought they could spin coverage of this into a free speech grift.

But in doing all this he was still dropping Soros and UN conspiracy theories into his answers.

Well I never! Alex Jones is absolutely the last person I'd expect to use they/them.

beanheadmcginty

I'm surprised that a judge is allowed to demonstrate that much overt contempt for a defendant. Absolutely delighted that she is though.

Any chance his legal team are trying to be shit on purpose to get a mistrial?

Sonny_Jim

Pretty risky strategy as that would run them the risk of being disbarred.

That is the view David Pakman is taking. Make it as crazy and inept as possible in the hopes they call a mistrial. Apparently this would be good for Jones, but I can't see how.

His attorneys have complained several times that they've not been able to talk to Jones. At least one has asked to leave the case but been denied because it would slow down the case - he switched lawyers a lot early on.

Paul Calf

Will he be forced to reveal the truth that we've all known all along: that he's actually Bill Hicks who faked his death to be reborn as 'Alex Jones'?

MojoJojo

Quote from: pigamus on August 03, 2022, 08:30:41 PMYou know he'll somehow still get off or there'll be a mistrial or some shit

This is 2022 people, hope is dead, the bad guys always win

He's already lost, this is discovery for the trial to determine damages.

Although the way he is going he could perjure himself into prison.

elliszeroed

There's a clip on that Independent page of the Judge totalling chewing Jones out over saying he is bankrupt and repeatedly lying while giving testimony. I think she actually struggles over how to explain to him that he can't lie under oath.

Is there any way to watch the trial live, or they complete recordings.

Check out the Law and Crime channel on YouTube. Not sure if they are streaming it but they did for the Depp trial.

I can't see any scheduled feeds so maybe not.

elliszeroed

The lawyers have given their closing arguements now, but the Law and Crime channel should have plenty of clips.

touchingcloth

The clips from this just make me really fucking sad that Andy's public humiliation came pre-trial. Just like he did, right?

non capisco

Can't get enough of the 'Hmm hmm hmm hmm, yes, Mr. Jones, indeed" bit. It's the new "Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?"

Quote$800,000 dollars a day selling diet supplements, gun paraphernalia and survivalist equipment.

Was this the figure that was pure profit for Jones? his slice off the top of BRAIN FORCE tincture?

Ferris

Hang on, are we saying Alex Jones is a liar?!
