If the golf course near there I'm a member of wasn't closed due to lockdown I may or may not have been there today.

Tell that anecdote to your grandkids!

Blue Jam

"one of 'em was in a Marvel film... and the other one's his friend"

Christ this is bleak:

...but THE DEAL IS DONE.

PowerButchi

Yeah, they've already sold out of the limited edition Wrexham packaged Aviation Gin. 6000 bottles in under 2 hours. Combine that with the fact we actually fucking won last night against Alty and it's the happiest I think I've ever been as a Wrexham supporter.

Who were the 2% not in favour of the takeover?

The family of Stuart Lubbock.

Disappointed I couldn't find anyone doing an It's Always Sunny in Wrexham style opening montage yet on Youtube. Seems to be a band that done their own song with that title though (after talk of the takeover).

People obsessed with the club being fan owned despite how shite we become. They still think they're fighting a war with Moss and Roberts and think everyone is out to fuck us. A few actively tried to sabotage this deal.

PowerButchi

There's been a murder a mile away from me in Ruabon.

Wrob and Wryan:

Nope, this will never, ever cease to amuse and amaze me.

Finally went to Wrecsam (and Buckley) today. Not a lot open and had obviously heard incorrectly that Wales was now parallel with England re: COVID rules, but a frustrating town in a lot of respects. You could easily see how it could become legitimately nice but years of underspend have turned it into tops off lagerboys braindrain sadtown. Tŷ Pawb seemed nice (a lot of it was shut) and I had some good actually homemade chips in the Priory cafe. I'm sure there are hidden gems within and further afield and wouldn't rule out going back on a late summer cycle.

Buckley was kind of dull but seeing the Tivoli reminded me about someone who wrote a letter to the NME about seeing someone having full penno on the dancefloor while Space were playing.

Rumours that Ryan and Rob will make their first visit to town today, for the match. It doesn't seem unlikely - Always Sunny in Philadelphia is filming in Dublin at the moment, and Ryan Reynolds appears to be with them. Good opportunity to hop over to Wales.

Sounds quite possible (and I saw something about an 'increased police presence ahead of the Notts County game this evening).

I'm actually back in Wrexham for the first time in nearly two years at the moment, it's weird seeing a Lidl where the police station used to be.

Wrob and Wryan spotting is in full effect on Wrexham Twitter.

Say hi to Rob for me. Feels a bit sad to miss something so big. I've been up a couple of times in recent months, but didn't get much of a chance to explore down, so I didn't get to pop into the Lidl. Looks like Ty Pawb and the independent food scene is still doing well, although there were a few sad absences, like the Swedish tea shop at the entrance to the arcade.

Picked up a Wrexham lager and a Bootlegger lager today like some mad expat obsessively accumulating things from home. Maybe if Rob and Ryan do turn up I can tweet a picture of the drinks and pretend I'm a lifelong Wrexham FC fan.

Reports of a private jet landing at Hawarden Airport... what do we reckon, is it finally happening?

Blue Jam

Ooooooh exciting! I almost wish I was back there.

I will never, ever cease to be amused by all this:

Absolutely mad, isn't it? Given that season one of Mythic Quest
Spoiler alert
had a Wrexham shield in it

, I wonder whether Rob will sneak any references into the next season of Always Sunny.

I don't watch Ted Lasso but this is pretty funny:

So is Charlie in a Wrexham shirt:

Sponsored by TikTok rather that Iiiiiiiiiifor Williams Trailers now? Those are some heavy strings they've pulled there. Wrob and Wryan bringing in the big guns.

I'm a bit disappointed by the TikTok thing, if only because it was funny to see people in Dublin staring at my very parochial-looking 20-21 shirt and wondering who the fuck Ifor Williams was.

I wish I'd made the effort to give football a try when I was a kid/teenager, instead of sullenly hating it because disliking something popular seemed like a good substitute for a personality. I only ever went to two Wrexham games in total, both times with free tickets (the first from my school, the second from MFM 103.4 - the latter of which brilliantly culminated in me and all the other child winners on the pitch at half-time, answering trivia questions about Wrexham AFC in front of the whole crowd). I love seeing the town getting success, but I can't deny any sudden interest in the football team from myself would blatantly be celeb gloryhunting.

BritishHobo

Is it too late now, for a surprise visit, with just over an hour til kickoff? I'd have thought if Rob and Ryan were coming then they'd have made themselves known a few hours earlier, visited some places in town, stoked up the atmosphere of the crowd, got some good footage for the documentary.

Blue Jam

The excitement builds...

If Wrob and Wryan are showing their faces this will be the best thing that has happened in Wrexham ever.
Spoiler alert
Seriously.

Looks like it was a no-show then. FFS, they would have been Wrecsam's most celebrated visitors since Mulatu Astatke[nb]https://www.theguardian.com/music/2009/may/01/mulatu-astatke-jazz[/nb], pull your fingers out lads.

Echo Valley 2-6809

They've admitted they know fuck all about football and they didn't tweet anything for Arfon Griffiths' 80th birthday last week.

I'll be passing through Wrexham on a train in about 10 minutes. If I see Ryan Reynolds I'll let you know.
