I have successfully talked my wife out of naming our new parrot Cockscratch

I said to her I think such a name would be vulgar and crass and a little bit childish for a pet, especially a parrot. What if it started mimicking mimicking human speech and accidentally blurted its name out? Can't call a parrot Cockscratch, for fucks sake!

I've christened it Cocksniff instead, much more in tune with what a parrot should be called
