I thought this was another great one, the theme park ride task was really funny stuff, Madeleine and Brynley mocking Guy especially. The

maths exam was brilliant too, anyone else and I'd felt sorry for them but Guy's such a dick to Paul sometimes that it

made me laugh a lot.

Captain Z

I'm only up to E6 but I'm not that keen on the NZ series. Maybe it's because I'm quite new to it all, but the in-studio dynamic and energy is way more fun in the UK series and I don't think the NZ tasks are really any different on balance.

Ja'moke

"Utility ingredient" killed me in the latest episode.

Gonna miss this cast when it finishes next week.

Agreed. Do we know if they're doing another series in March like the UK version?

Likewise, on both fronts. I didn't click with Leigh originally but he's really won me over during the last few episodes, and I especially liked the theme park ride he and Angella created.

I did a brief search and can't find any news about a potential second series, so if there is one it'll be a fair while off.

BeardFaceMan

Other than Guy being annoying in the studio with his celebrations I can't really think of any other criticisms (maybe the host can be a bit stiff but he seemed to get better as the show went on), this has been really good stuff so far. If I hadn't seen Taskmaster before and you showed me this series and UK series 10, I'd be far more excited for a new NZ series. Looking forward to rewatching this when it's done.

Anyone have any recommendations for any comedy the NZ cast have been in?

Madeleine co-starred, co-wrote and co-directed this, which I really enjoyed: https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=69464.0

Thanks to James Acaster's Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 I've discovered the music of Paul Williams, which I'm enormously fond of. https://paulwilliams12.bandcamp.com/album/surf-music

Thought that was another excellent episode and a fitting finale,
Spoiler alert
the desert/dessert task was evil but very funny, the crime one superb, and the complimentary team task made me laugh a lot, hell, even the studio based tasks were great. I'm really pleased that Angella won too, if only for the possibility of her appearing in an eventual Champions Of Champions.

I've no idea what the ratings were like but I really hope it returns as they've got the format down to a tee.

Edit: Just found this - https://www.nzonair.govt.nz/research/audience-ratings-tv/ - which suggests it was the third most popular show of the week ending 18th December, while Beyond A Joke reported "New Zealand's local version of the Taskmaster format premiered on TVNZ this month becoming an instant hit and winning it's primetime slot. The show was the highest rating show of the night in the 18-49 and male demographic, beating the 6pm News." https://www.beyondthejoke.co.uk/content/9803/taskmaster-goes-global - So a second season must surely be guaranteed.

DrGreggles

Yes, another great episode and up there with the best TM series anywhere.

Spoiler alert
Also glad that Angella won - she's completely adorable.

As has been mentioned in Oscillations, Paul Williams' album 'Surf Music' is really good too.

The Lurker

Great final episode and some brilliant tasks. Jeremy really came into his own on it too. Really hope there's going to be another series.

Ja'moke

Paul and the crew just enjoying Leigh's cheese toasties which had nothing at all to do with the task was great.

I've really loved this series and hope there is more to come!

The Lurker

Oh and I was expecting the reveal of the final team task to be the same as the one in the UK first series so it was initially a bit disappointing as I could pre-empt how the task could be done (which was one of the reasons why I wasn't too keen on the American version). If anything, it was better than the British one due to the

complimentary mints

hint and that's no slight on the UK task either as that was one of my favourite team tasks.

Not seen the New Zealand Taskmaster yet but have been listening to this after last week's James Acaster special and love it.

Feel like I'd love it more if I had the first clue about basketball, given all the references. Got to say, after a quick look at the 2013 draft, I don't think Nerlens Noel was happy to be a pelican. At all.

BeardFaceMan

That was a fantastic episode, not a duff task in sight. This series really was far superior to UK S10. An excellent and likeable cast who clearly liked each other, great selection of tasks, I really hope they do more.

Ideal scenario is they do some sort of International Champion of Champions episode where they have winners from all the different international series on.

What a wonderful series. It gave comedians the opportunity to be funny, whereas the last series of the UK version just seemed to focus on making them look stupid.

I'm still not sold on Jeremy - though he did improve - but when the tasks, contestants and assistant were as good as they were then the Taskmaster himself doesn't need to carry the show like Greg often does.

I really hope the producers of the UK version were watching and take inspiration from it. Or just nick all the tasks.

And a rare occurrence of the funniest contestant winning. Though I really was fond of them all.

10/10.

I think that's a good spot, the UK series does seem to be more laughing at the contestants now rather than laughing with them.

Jeremy has a little ways to go to nailing the role but he really got better as he went on, like in the live task in the last ep when Angella didn't want to go first but he made her anyway.

Brynley was my fave, I'd have liked to see her win, other than that, top job all round, really. I wasn't even that annoyed by Guys studio antics by the end.

And honorable mention of everyone passing around the uncles ashes to have a taste, even after they were told it was kitty litter, but there were a lot of laugh out loud moments this episode.

Pie Pie Eater

Another big fan of the NZ version here - ended up looking forward to it more than the UK one this series. Like BeardFaceMan I am team Brynley, just loved her general energy, enthusiasm and obvious genuine joy when doing the tasks. A bit sad I won't be seeing her do more and hope she can use any new-found exposure to bring a show to the fringe or something. Having said that I don't begrudge Angella the win at all, she was also great. Actually (this may already have been said above) the balance of contestant types was pretty much perfect in this series.

beanheadmcginty

As a big vinegar head I really want to try Leigh's crisps now. On researching them (and finding out they are real) I discovered that he accidentally became something of a successful beer magnate off the back of a jokey comment he made a few years ago.

DrGreggles

Did anyone manage to grab the whole series?
Looks like a lot of the links are dead.

The official taskmaster youtube channel has, against all odds, uploaded episode 1 of Suurmestari (Taskmaster Finland) with english subtitles

You'll probably need a VPN to get at it, though. My free VPN doesn't cover Finland, but I found connecting via the Netherlands worked.

I quite enjoyed that (the Finnish version), although it feels like an altogether more relaxed affair than the UK one. I don't suppose I'll ever get to see the rest of it, though.

Famous Mortimer

Just caught the first episode of the New Zealand version, and it's great. Knowing other people who've been on NZ comedy things, I reckon they've got another couple of seasons of strong contestants too.
