fucking ponderous

Lost what little respect I had for Dasha after this post (specifically, taking this anti-Epstein stance, then basically shrugging it off when on a podcast w/ someone who was a few degrees of separation away from Epstein himself and essentially acting like the whole thing was no big deal)

Just a clearly unbearably cynical nihilistic, opportunistic person to me

internalised misogyny, aye.

chip

I was only joking. I don't keep it internalised

Couple of crowd-worky stand-up clips of Mullen on his instagram. Funny stuff. I was sad Stav left the show, but we might find ourselves thanking him, tbh.

Thought the last premium episode (TAFS test episode 2) was really funny. Loved Adam mangling his way through the monologue jokes Nick wrote for him. Slightly reminiscent of the blue card segments on Norm Macdonald Live. Them bringing a bit of actual prepared material into the mix does feel quite refreshing.

MrsWarboysLover

I'm actually really loving The Adam Friedland show. The concept itself is hilarious and makes me chuckle just thinking about it. I also love that every episode is them 'planning' for a show that will never happen.
The jokes really reminded me of Norm's blue card jokes too, it's the closest anything has come to matching that energy.
Also, Nick and Adam's friendship is genuinely heartwarming and you can properly tell they're close friends. I know they always were, but it was harder to see in the cumtown days.

I definitely don't miss Stav interjecting with his repetitive and performatively sexual comments. i was actually more sick of him than I thought, and his absence is making that clear

oh and Nick's assessment of Elmo's dad's character was a highlight

I was listening to the first post-election one from 2016 and I think this little exchange:

https://youtu.be/yxr0JIKsGl4?t=312s

is something you'd definitely have in a Cumtown origins movie if such a thing were ever made.

Memorex MP3

Catching up on the last few months of cumtown (Christmas onwards), haven't quite gotten to Stav leaving but his reluctance to do anything other than the bare minimum is at utterly insane levels. Considering his whole draw was basically being a jolly hype man it's hard to see what loss there will be when he's seemingly constantly clock watching and on autopilot.

Def seems quite a bit less willing to go deep on bits than the other two at this stage too.

non capisco

I've been up and down on Cum Town over the years but that paedo vigilante thread in General Bullshit did remind me of an absolutely fantastic Nick Mullen riff where he imagined fans of the To Catch A Predator host were pretending to be paedophiles online in the chance they might get to meet him. "I THOUGHT it was you!!"

Also every time I see Christian Bale in a film, as I did today in that catshit new Thor bollocks, I'm reminded of the Cum Town bit where Bale hooks up with someone, drops his trousers to reveal a micropenis and says "Oh, yeah, sorry. I'm preparing to play the part of someone with a really small dick." which is as perfect a stupid joke as ever I've heard.

QuoteNo More Prerecording + Temporary Release Schedule
As TAFS is a topical show, the era of prerecording episodes is over, save for maybe a week off for the holidays (yom kippur, sukkot, passover, rosh hashannah, simchat b'nikkaret, moz jobrani, and thanksgiving). Episodes will be recorded and released DAY OF.

But! I will be doing a couple of weekends on the road trying to promote the show through viral tik tok stand up skits, etc, so for the time being premium episodes will be moved to MONDAYS and the regular episodes will continue on WEDNESDAYS.

If by chance you see something on either feeds not on a MONDAY or a WEDNESDAY that is just supplementary content, like an easter egg or a fortune cookie.

This whole thing is definitely an extended bit isn't it? Especially the studio they're apparently buying.

Seems like they're trying to drive it into the ground by just spending all the money now which is arguably funnier.

Nick (and Adam) was on great form on the Jim & Sam show the other day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SGb5SZHBqw

amputeeporn

They were also great on Matt and Shane's secret podcast, and honestly sounded like they're having a blast.

Love that 'pivoting to the centre left media space' seems central to the bit.

Picked up on my first little dig at Stav on a recent episode. Can't remember the context, but Nick said something like:

'A clown. Travelling the world. Telling people he has a small penis. Then saying to a member of the audience: 'hey, dude, do you have a-'

Before Adam cut him off.

dontpaintyourteeth

There was also the bit when Adam was on the phone and Nick said "ask him if he's ever been with a squirter" which is from a crowd work video that Stav posted

And a bit about making people sign NDAs that I now can't find again

amputeeporn

Loving the Simon Pegg mileage, and the seemingly sincere effort to get Tom Myers in for an interview.

It's crazy to think that Cum Town, which I still think of as the newest exciting comedy thing I became obsessed with, is over.

Great to see them all going for it, though. Their style of comedy definitely feels like it's starting to leak into the mainstream, so I can see why there might have been frustrations with the corner they were stuck in.

TAFS should definitely get Stav in for a Christmas special, though.

AllisonSays

Despite not really funding 80 to 90 per cent of anything they do funny I'm weirdly invested in this. The most recent one where they seemed to fall out a bit was fascinating. Nick is like ... I dunno, all I can think of is Paul Gascgoine. Huge talent, awful temperament, sometimes incredibly driven and sometimes totally dysfunctional.

Schnapple

The last ten minutes of the most recent free edition with Nick doing his bad cockney accent commenting on the recent trans controversies in the U.S. and then onto Lilo & Stitch was exactly the kind of deeply stupid rubbish that keeps me listening to this.

"I hate him. He's blue, he's from outer-space and he dunt even wanna meet our queen."

Joe Qunt

Didn't know there was Cumboys thread, grand.

Cumtown was a formative piece of comedy for me. Like Blackadder or Father Ted for you auld boys, it means so much to me.

Was incredibly sad - but not surprised - when Stav quit. He'd been getting much more popular (undeservedly in my opinion but that's another subject) and was never a fan of putting much effort into the pod. Nick had grand designs for video pods but a combination of poor crypto investments and cocaine psychosis put a stop to it.

I look back on Adam's role in the pod and I'm far more grateful for him. He kept them going with his lightning rod role. He's much funnier than I gave him credit for. I realised when I was watching YouTube clips of him telling his Lyft story with the feminist podcaster. He was on Chapo and was easily the funniest person in the room.

Still, I'm very glad Nick is still around and re-energised to make some more brilliant comedy.

Wonder if Stav anticipated that he'd so quickly be solidly on track to become the next Tom Myers/Jake Flores level figure for the fanbase when he quit the show

Is it really over? I haven't listened in a while. I assumed 'The Adam Friedland Show' was just a bit in Cum Town, is it a completely different podcast?

It's over in name, but not necessarily in spirit. Bit like how The Mothers Of Invention became Frank Zappa And The Mothers. There's less people now and the name's different, but they're still playing the same music. Just in 7/8 reggae.

The bit seems to be that they're 'pivoting to the centre left media space', where Nick will coach Adam to be a talk show host. They appear to be building a set and transitioning to video casts. They said somewhere they wanted it to feel like Larry Sanders before he got the show.

TBC if the above is a bit - but I think they're definitely serious about it being called The Adam Friedland show now (apparently they're just struggling to get the patreon name changed), which I think is a smart and subversive idea given that Nick is still clearly the main creative force, but brings baggage with him

I love how instead of shitting on Adam directly, the joke is putting as much effort, resources and time into setting him up for success as he can, which makes Adam's incompetence and floundering even funnier.

PS I do like Adam and think he's funny

Schnapple

I wish Stav all the best and think he's a decent stand-up who works hard, but it's so weird to now see him appear constantly in my algorithm alongside titles like 'He Said What!?' or 'Comedian Rips On Bad Boyfriend!', accompanied by a wacky clipart photo. He and his management are just playing the game, as is Nick to a degree, but it's so far removed from the tone and attitude of years of Cum Town that it's like watching one of your best friends suddenly pivot into a trendy new belief system.

amputeeporn

Stav probably has a shot at being the fat friend in a few movies. Good for him if that's what he wants, but yeah, the campaign feels pretty forced at this stage.

Also - his special, while pretty tame, took a lot of its talking points and ideological tone from Cum Town, (his crowd work even more so) and now he's just stuck with the squirter stuff, he might quickly look one note next to a reinvigorated Mulldog.

Also - the Adam Friedland Show shared a picture of their new work space on insta and it looks like they might actually be serious about this shit...

Yeah - I'm really interested to see where it goes. Some of the cack-handed needle drops have got me good.

Video on Patreon too (for about 5 minutes). Just that same wide angle shot as the picture. Not convinced it's not a bit yet, but I'm involved.

Indomitable Spirit

Tears of pride streaming down my face as I watch this.

Nick emerging dressed as Dracula was about the hardest I've laughed this year.

Although, like all late-night shows, I really just sit through the monologue to get to the guests.
