Highly recommended. Lovely dynamic between Mike, Sean McCarthy and the utterly lovable Scott Chaplain, plus some great value guests. Only a matter of time before the CT lads make their appearance. Also the Grubstakers Jeffrey Epstein episode(s) with Mullen and Recine are must listens.

Nice little compilation here of Mullen's recent stand-up clips:

He's definitely getting a lot more confident as a comic, bringing a little more of his podcast side to the stage.

Retinend

That was really funny, and feels current. I never got on with the podcast back when, but I might try again after watching this.

Noodle Lizard

Stav tugging at the collar of his Hawaiian shirt somewhere.

Lord Mandrake

The AFS is really promising but re-listening to things like bug Adam or Robocop showgirl batman I realised that whilst Nicks bits are funny, it was Stavs laugh that really gets me going.

amputeeporn

It's definitely part of the alchemy. Nick vaguely alluded to needing to address that issue on one of the videos, and I hope they do.

The Bumlord

Can't he just bring back Stavbot?

Lord Mandrake

Nicks giggling is always good but Adam laughs like a bug and it pisses me off.

I miss the laughter, but I don't miss hearing Stav's same 5 talking points over and over. If I have to choose, I'll take losing the laughter

dontpaintyourteeth

I definitely don't miss Stav going "I jacked off so many times to that" whenever anything involving a famous woman is mentioned

Memorex MP3

Stav's laughter was fairly gone by the end too. Feeling automated and surrounded by moaning about how he doesn't want to do the show.

It probably was fairly tiring to know your job was basically to laugh at another guy, tbf.

Joe Qunt

Stav was a worthy presence on the pod but becoming a mainstream comic made his contributions weak. I'll miss the classic bits he had ("Thousand Island stare" is legendary) but I won't miss him complaining in the end or his notoriously thin skin. For a man who delights in mocking others so much, it's funny how defensive he is when mocked himself.

Dr Rock

Stav was an essential part of Cum Town for the most. Now its changing, they don't need him but I wish him all the best cos he made me laff loads

kngen

Just a heads up for Cum Town devotees that Tom Meyers is on the latest Chapo. I was only vaguely familiar with his feud with Mullen et al (from when Stav and Friedland have been on and talked about him), so I spent the best part of an hour wondering why the fuck they were giving the time of day to this deeply unfunny, politically limp charisma vacuum. Then it all became clear at the end.

I'm not sure how I feel about them getting him on just to laugh at him, rather than with him - but, to be fair to them, they pitched him numerous softballs that any half-decent comic would have eagerly swung at, but he just couldn't or wouldn't.

'Tell us about some of the worst gigs you've ever done.'

'Mmmm ... no.'

chip

The bit at the end where Tom just flatly refused to even consider squashing the beef between him and the TAFS boys was a bit awkward. But then, I don't know what I expected.

Old Nehamkin

The bit in that Chapo ep where Myers drops that baffling joke about R. Kelly that's received with several seconds of confused silence is amazing. I could almost hear a phantom Stav exploding with laughter.

Ep. XFF - A Breather

Magic. A great vibe with them both excited about how things are coming together for the show, which sounds like it's going to be insane. Planning who their celebrity friends are gonna be when they're famous.

kitsofan34

Is there any rough time frame for when the show will start properly, instead of these "test shows"?

Stonefish

Bit disappointed in the first real episode of the show. Some of the test shows with pre-written sketches/ideas etc were wonderful. This felt like a step backwards in that it's three guys podcasting for an hour, albeit in a nice room with good equipment. Maybe they were so exhausted from building the studio and needed a low key episode.

dontpaintyourteeth

Yeah I was perhaps expecting something more high-concept especially after the one with Adam auditioning new people, which was genuinely brilliant. Some funny bits though. I'm still a patron, gawd hep me.

up_the_hampipe

I thought they were just doing a long bit at first, but it seemed like they genuinely had little to say and the chat show set-up made them feel more awkward/nervous about the conversation.

Schnapple

This didn't really work for me either, although Shane Gillis has the right face for that mask, and the 70s filter inevitably makes Nick look cool as Count Dracula. As dontpaintyourteeth mentioned, the Nick's Replacement episode was genuinely brilliant, so expected a bit more... pizazz? Have been enjoying dipping in and out of the recent audio episodes. The show doesn't have the energy or sheer outrageousness of its peak years, but the new, comparatively mellow vibe of TAFS works.

I suppose that it does accurately mimic an actual late night chat show as I do skip the monologue.

dontpaintyourteeth

Haven't watched it yet, but there's a new episode on patreon

"Folks, the outpouring of love that we've received has been insane. Thank you all so much we are so happy that we have this community behind us and everything we do.
We're still tweaking the format, but this one might be even more perfect than the last. We hear your feedback about the intro and were doing our best to really dial it in, but rest assured, the show will continue with this beloved format."

The debate rages on online as to how much of this is a "bit" even though that blurb is clearly dripping in sarcasm. Guest is Mike Recine

amputeeporn

I've only seen half of episode one so far, but am assuming they've killed themselves to get the studio over the line and are exhausted. If what Nick said before about this being Larry Sanders before he gets the show is still accurate, then it would make sense to start as shabbily as possible and slowly build the show around them.

Or they might have assumed that if they built the studio, the good ideas would just arrive...

Not too worried - some of the video episodes they've done already are great. They're still just finding their feet.

C_Larence

Nick's impression in the pilot episode of Beetlejuice as Emmet Till was amazing
