Steve Pemberton. Though I think the majority view is it's Reece who's visited this board and told us via product placement.

On that subject, I want to quote @non capisco who said re the live show that "CaB should get a concession for any distress caused when they made us think the television was talking to us."

Ha ha, they absolutely should! I watched that going out live and thought I was having a stroke. Sort us out, Reece!

Just to ask again - where did you hear the title from? I'm not disbelieving, just want to know all the avenues of information.

QuoteAhead of the ninth and final season of Bafta award-winning Inside No. 9, they have been reflecting on the show's history, and it wasn't always plain sailing.

"There have definitely been times where TV executives have thought we can't achieve certain things, but we've always proved them wrong," explains 56-year-old Pemberton.

The pair haven't been afraid to experiment over the years, having produced an entirely silent episode, one all in iambic pentameter and now, in the final series, an episode filmed from a doorbell camera.

QuoteThinking Out Loud, was praised highly by critics, and is often included in a roundup of best episodes.
Er, is it?  I thought that one was a duffer.

Agreed - a far from classic episode.

Among other issues with that episode, if I wanted to see an embarrassing shallow shit YouTuber I'd go onto YouTube.

Sexton Brackets Drugbust

Yeah, I'd say Thinking Out Loud was one of the extremely few episodes that I'd consider to be bad.

I really like Thinking Out Loud, the monologues and performances are terrific plus there's a tense where's-this-going atmosphere, but I think (out loud) the article writer there has got it mixed up with Cold Comfort, which is quite highly thought-of.

The only issues with the episode are...
Spoiler alert
Pemberton's accent (which I can justify with his character not being real), the expositiony nature of the last speech (which Jon Plowman forced upon them, fearing people wouldn't get the twist for some reason) and whether or not the treatment of Dissassociative Identity Disorder is offensive (which I'm not bothered about in this context, sorry - it's a dark horror-filled show, it goes to uncomfortable places.)

It was massively hampered by the fact it all had to be done and dusted within half an hour.

Not sure if you mean just that episode or the series overall but as much as I've loved IN9 this is my main criticism of it, it's meant some of the episodes have inevitably felt under developed. I know it can't be helped and the best ones either made the most of the brevity or somehow packed plenty in while maintaining an even pace so managed to feel a lot longer (in a good way I mean!) but it's still a bit of a shame. The Twilight Zone managed to get pushed up to an hour, so should this!!

I was specifically talking about Thinking Out Loud. I didn't hate it - I thought it was fine, but the fact they had to be talked into adding an explainer on to the end showed it wasn't neat enough to be that short.

Have you seen those hour-long Twilight Zone episodes? They're torturous, in terms of padding. A misguided season.

I mean, I'm sure the guys would handle it better but I've always liked the half-hour format. Even if certain elements get speeded over, like some finer details near the end of How Do You Plead?, they're still there to be taken in on rewatch.

Just to repeat - and this is mentioned in the making-of book - it was under pressure from Jon Plowman that they added some extra-explaining lines to the end of that episode. Shearsmith has said he regrets the decision.

Tickled by this 'review' of the book on Amazon, also that it helped one person. Shift a couple of words around and it's quite a poetic haiku

The boys are on The One Show tomorrow. Floella Benjamin was on it today!

Snrub

Any word on the podcast returning for the final series?

Think it was mentioned that "scheduling issues" that meant it didn't return after the Series 8 Christmas special, but I suspect it might be quietly dropped for this series too which would be a shame

Yeah, the lads don't seem too keen on it. That's the vibe I got from interviews anyway.

IsavedLatin

Has anyone had any joy with booking tickets yet for the live show? Theatre website hasn't updated yet, as far as I can see.

Timothy

I have 16 in queue for me. It's paused at the moment.

I got in the queue at https://insideno9onstage.com/.

IsavedLatin

I was sitting patiently waiting for the Delfont Mackintosh website to update, like a lemon, but seemingly it's this one: https://insideno9onstage.com/

Waking Life

Ticketmaster has loads of availability. Use that instead.

Timothy

Delfont Mackintosh' own site doesn't have a queue either.

Edit: This seemed to have been fixed.

Timothy

But if you press fast enough when the page loads you can get a seating chart page and then just click the button until you're on the date you want to go.

IsavedLatin

Thanks, everyone. I had opened up Ticketmaster just before your recommendation, @Waking Life, and proceeded to spend much too long on it selecting tickets, only for Ticketmaster to say it had to contact the venue for availability and then inevitably tell me that my selection was not available.

Then had a look at the DM website again and somehow managed to take me straight past the queue! It's no way to run a railroad, but at least I've got my tickets. Was really not expecting it to feel like going for Glastonbury tickets ...

(Hiya Reece mate, could you sort out the tech next time you do something like this, cheers)

lauraxsynthesis

I went into a comedy gig just as booking opened and now I'm 4000 in the queue. That's what I get for supporting live comedy.
