As it seems this is going to keep getting brought up, I just want to make my position and actions clear.
Near the start of this thread, I repeated what had already been mentioned in the (iirc) Glinner thread, as people were at that point having the conversation in two places at once: that the Jewish Chronicle joke was getting different treatment in the press and social media to the Israel one, to the point where it seemed it may have been contested. I then went on to assume he did say it.
I opined that due to the idiosyncratic phrasing, the joke could be interpreted as poking fun at the Jewish religion's arcane nature. This wasn't me bending over backwards to excuse antisemitism or "pretending" it wasn't something I knew it was. It was my genuine reaction. When I read in one of the articles that Hunter made a joke about the JC charging money being typical Jewish behaviour, my assumption was he was an antisemitic piece of shit. When I read another article and saw the wording of it, my thought was 'oh, well that's phrased in such a way that it could be doing this other thing'. As I made clear at the time, I had no real knowledge of Hunter to inform which was more likely. It is now extremely clear that he's an antisemitic piece of shit and that the weird phrasing of the joke (assuming it was accurately transcribed) was either him clumsily trying to give himself some deniability and/or him being a bad comic who can't construct a joke properly.
Fuck antisemitism, fuck all bigotry. I don't think the former counts less, and I don't think all Jews are Zionists or untrustworthy or Tory-voters. I'm sorry if any of my posts have made it seem this way or have upset anyone on this forum.
