The 1982 film The Entity is a notorious piece of 'this really happened HONEST it did' exploitation shite with a budget, starring Barbara Hershey as an unfortunate woman who finds herself being raped and assaulted repeatedly by the supposed ghost of her abusive ex. General consensus has it that that's what the Stephenson scenes are apparently spoofing, and explains why she soars into the sky at the end (because ghosts are supernatural and can do that sort of shit).
