Graham Linehan's Exxtreme Transphobia: "Can I have my twitter account back..."

Surely it's only matter of time before Jack Dee busts his transphobic nut, this tweet today

and promoting the Andrew Doyle book last week  He's following some shockers on twitter Allison Bailey, Doc Stock, Frances Weetman, Buck Angel, James Esses, LOTT, Julie Bindel, Helen Joyce etc..

Poirots BigGarlickyCorpse

As someone who works for a local authority, it's generally not the done thing for official LA accounts (which Fingal Co. Co. Library would come under) to be overtly political. Councillors yes. Local authorities no.

EDIT: good thing I stopped caring about Jack Dee decades ago

jobotic

Not entirely surprising about Dee.

I think I'll just assume that anyone in the media/showbiz/public eye is a fucking cunt until they prove otherwise. Seems safer.

MigraineBoy

This time last year Jack Dee was promoting his book & an interview with the Express mentioned Stock & Rowling only for Jack to say; "for the first time in my life people are being persecuted in this country for what are otherwise mainstream views."

Stand down James Dreyfus, Jack is now the front runner for the lead in the Father Ted musical.

Barry Admin

Awww. After Cannon and Ball as a kid, the first proper comedy show I ever went to had Jack Dee and Simon Fanshawe appearing, and they were fucking brilliant. Sad to hear that Dee may now have also become a radicalised-by-Twitter transphobe like Fanshawe.

Arthur Smith was also on the bill - I hope he isn't next or I'll never look at white dog shit the same way again.

idunnosomename

I though Jack Dee was just a pretend curmudgeon. bit sad he turns out to be a proper cunt but his shtick has been past its sell-by for like twenty years.

Same here, Jack Dee with an unknown Lee Evans as support, t'was brilliant.

Simply concerned over the reach of Big Tech.

How long does it take to cancel an account? Surely you would tweet either before or after you'd cancelled, not stop and tweet half-way through the process.

Really sickening how JKR is using the same subject to whitewash her hatred like she also did with Ukraine.

jobotic

Dee follows an awful lot of climate change deniers too.

Presume him and Young go to the same club that is definitely not for the elites oh no.

Total write off.

I pointed out to her on twitter that Hearts of Oak were at the KJK rally she was promoting, and she blocked me for it. So she's definitely aware that white nationalist extremist groups are infiltrating GC rallies - making them very unsafe places for BRM and/or queer people - but she doesn't give a fuck. She could end all that with one tweet, so much do the main GC accounts want to kiss her arse, but she's clearly not interested. So she can fuck off pretending to care about brown people, frankly.

Kankurette

To be perfectly honest, I don't think the lesbians or black women at those rallies are arsed either that their new friends could put them in danger, they're so blinded by their anti-trans hatred they don't care if the white men who've joined them see them as racially inferior or sexual deviants.

I thought gendercritters would be totally fine about Iran, being as how they've decided Muslims who support sex segregation are the good guys now.

I still don't understand how they can align with pepplevwho are literallyba danger to them, but then I'm not a monomaniacal bigot, so I guess that kind of thinking naturally escapes my comprehension.

Kankurette

I also hate it when they go on about ideological purity and 'we don't have to agree on everything!' They're either incredibly thick or deliberately obtuse. There's a huge difference between, say, the Jewish Society, Labour students and SWSS at Manchester University teaming up to protest against the BNP (as happened in my second year when we had BNP members infiltrating left-wing groups and running in the elections) and top-up fees, or trade unions who are pro-Brexit teaming up with those who aren't (Enough is Enough springs to mind), and teaming up with people who are fundamentally opposed to everything you believe in except this one thing. And they hate you too, they just hate this person more.

Avoid uncomfortable cognitive dissonance by having zero principles!

That comment about enjoying the "pub brawl" aspect of Twitter, and today's about Bailey's "army" suggest it's all just a game to her, and it must be very satisfying blocking people til you have a thread full of praise. Will end badly though, or more likely just continue increasingly badly indefinitely.

Kankurette

And that's another thing: are they aware that women don't tend to have many rights in countries with far right-wing governments? The far right government they seem to want would ban abortion and that's just for starters.

Rob Newman appears to be following some unpleasant-looking accounts.  Which must be due to his charming naïveté in not understanding how Twitter even works, rite?

It's like a contagion.  Or maybe people not recognising that they're aging.

I followed plenty of unpleasant accounts when I was on Twitter. Didn't mean I agreed with them.

Edit:  We went through this at the start of the year, actually.

Quote from: Barry Admin on September 22, 2022, 04:47:13 PMWhy have MRA types always been so attracted to transphobia? As mentioned elsewhere, I noticed it again the other night when I went through some old threads on here.

A lot of the MRA hate for trans women comes from the incel sector, as part of their belief that everybody else is having sex and they're not. Trans women "cheated" that outcome by being women. It's also the zero sum rights thing other posters have mentioned, or seeing us as deviants because their only exposure to trans stuff is through porn.

Quote from: somersetchris on September 22, 2022, 06:35:30 PMI think part of it is fear, they don't want trans women to exist in case they end up attracted to one. I'm pretty sure Katy Montgmerie has said that some of the most vociferous MRAs who say transphobic stuff on social media will also be creeping around their various online accounts and sliding into their DMs. There's even a word for them, is it 'chasers'?

Chasers are a different thing. Essentially people that want to fuck their idea of a trans woman (which they've mostly got from porn, fetishising transness) but they wouldn't be seen dead with us in public.

The irony of Glinner's dating stunts is that if you go onto a site that caters/centres queer women, you'll find a tonne of straight guys, who are there purely to creep onto trans girls. A lot have worked out that if they set their gender to "trans female", they'll actually appear in our search results. Their profiles are immediately obvious, rather than being eggs or early-transition trans women or whatever.

Quote from: somersetchris on September 22, 2022, 06:25:57 PMIt's reassuring really because it shows that no matter how incompetent and ham-fisted you may be, you can still have a career in the media.

I'm certain plenty of people on CAB have working knowledge of that

Quote from: somersetchris on September 22, 2022, 07:24:35 PMThanks for saying that, I was a bit worried it would come across as me saying 'actually white men are the ones who are most discriminated against' which is obviously not what I mean. Of course white men still hold most of the power but at the same time millions are also disenfranchised and I'm presuming the ones who are moaning about Disney wokeness on YouTube aren't captains of industry.

This is something that IMO Sara Pascoe has spoken brilliantly about, on RHLSTP as well as other podcasts she's been on. Disenfranchised men will lash out at people who they think are taking their rights away when in fact equality would benefit everyone, they just don't see it. Because part of the impotent rage that many men feel I think derives from the expectation drilled into them that they will be successful, rich or whatever (while never expressing a single emotion), and if they can't do that, they must have failed at being a man. Imagine feeling that you'd failed at your only reason to exist, and lacking the expressiveness to even talk about it. Whereas if those expectations weren't placed on men that they would conform to these narrow gender roles, they might not be feeling such a sense of failure, and would be in a better place to express it / resolve it if they did.

This is really well put and I would add that they are pushed towards hating these people who are striving for equality because otherwise they might look at the real reason their lives aren't as good as they could be.

It reminds me of this cheesy but accurate depiction of inequality and the media:

QuoteStep 1: Log in to your PayPal account using a laptop or computer. You cannot delete a PayPal account using a smartphone.
Step 2: Click on the gear icon given in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open the 'Settings' menu.
Step 3: In the Account section under the 'Account options' tab, click on the 'Close your Account' option.
If you have money in the account, which only applies if people have recently used it to pay money to you, you may also have to give some bank details on the following screen, so they can pay you your balance before they close it, but if you only use it to buy shit off eBay you won't have to do that.

It's not hard, Jack! It's almost as if you've not really tried.

Has anyone used the phrase "mainstream groupthink" seriously and not been a twat?

It's the kind of thing I'd say as a teenager making a clumsy attempt to rebel. So yes, it is usually said by twats.

nowadays I say 'neoliberal orthodoxy' because I am political. "80s Madonna is the best? That's just neoliberal orthodoxy."
