Quote from: Red82 on September 04, 2024, 10:17:29 PMI'm nearly at the end of this now I especially love the Jazz bit.

I once had an awkward conversation/bit of a riff with Stew after a gig about Albert Ayler.

I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

And what about the Bald bit?  Has he been reading CAB?

I've also just got to the jazz bit and was motivated to post after roaring at the Sun Ra Arkestra gag, which is brilliant. As he says, the show is more fun than some of his others - I like it.

Red82

I liked it a lot. One of my fav Stew shows for sure.

He's starting a new show and another tour soon according to his regular emails.

MrVentham

"You can't just watch a minute of it. You have to watch the whole four and a half hours. It's about structure, like Tolstoy." That bit killed me and I'm definitely guilty of saying something similar to friends when I'm on one about Lee.

JCR

I notice he's going to AIG venues in Scotland next year he used to criticize. Guess divorce is the great equalizer. Fuck the Edinburgh Playhouse though, shite venue for stand up.

Quote from: Twilkes on July 08, 2024, 09:04:27 PMWhy does he wear those big Showaddywaddy jackets?

I've assumed it's a nod to Ted Chippington

Sonny_Jim

It's because it makes him look funneh

There isn't a general Stew thread, so this is probably the best place to say he's on Uncanny on Radio 4 on the 29th https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0024f6q

Alberon

They should ask Lionel Nimrod.

This is out now

JCR

Paid £97 for one ticket to see Stewart Lee vs the Man-Wulf (88 ticket 4 booking fee 5.5 insurance) so I hope it's one of his better shows.

Discussed in the supernatural podcast thread in GB too.

he did panel shows to help pay for the wedding, so he's doing a stadium tour to pay for the divorce

The fuck?? What's the venue?

sevendaughters

it's 29 quid near me.

touring a hell of a lot next year. two nights in Yeovil, who is he, David Bowie in 1972?

curiousoranges

Five nights in Cardiff? Must have Noel Gallagher level legal bills. I wonder if he'll be forced to reform with Richard Herring. It'll be like the nineties never ended.

"....and if you're lucky, then your god's a sheep....."

Magnum Valentino

What's all this speculation about his personal life? Very unseemly edge of gloating about it all.

Pink Gregory

also didn't him and Christie actually split up a few years ago, as it turns out?  Think it was reported as amicable and they both didn't really talk about it, until Stew mentioned it recently.

It's not as if it's unusual for him to do multiple dates in the same place, if he sells them out then he may as well.

Magnum Valentino

No doubt he's worth a fortune as well, as he's alluded to on the podcast appearances over the last few years. His audience is big enough to sell out the O2 several times over.

curiousoranges

But that same audience wouldn't go to an enormodome as it wouldn't be a "real Stewart Lee show" so he's doomed to slowly tour toilet towns and play humble venues.

He can use that.

So you purchased a DIRECTORS PACKAGE - with champagne and nibbles etc.  There are 10 seats onsale at that price - the other 3,000 are priced below £30.  You are just putting money into ATG's pockets.

Fambo Number Mive

QuoteYour ticket in our premium experience Director's Box, plus 37.5cl bottle of Moet Imperial Champagne and savoury & sweet treats. Soft drink options available.

Do you get your own box or do you need to sit with the other people who paid for this?

Can you imagine the other people who pre-ordered half a bottle of champagne at a Stewart Lee show? Guardian journalists as far as the eye can see.

I don't drink, so I'm not drinking the champagne.

The problem is almost no seats in the Playhouse have any legroom. I don't even know if the 88 seats do but if they do it's worth it for me. I couldn't sit in the regular seats for 2.5 hours & I really like Lee.

I hope he does £10 fringe shows the month before to stick it to me.

Memorex MP3

Would an aisle seat or the first row of a section not suffice for the leg room requirement?

Wish he'd bin the Leicester Square theatre shows and just do one massive show for London tbh. Feel like doing several months each year in front of that crowd of sycophants isn't very useful creatively.

Red82

His article is out today. He mainly just slags off the Tories which is a pretty noble pursuit to be fair.

Glad I popped into this thread- just got tickets for Darlington hippodrome, row E. They can't have been on sale long. Excellent stuff!

Wouldn't you want to play somewhere where people are still talking about it a weeks or months later? Stewart Lee's gig is the annual cultural highlight in my calendar. You play London and a week later, everyone's forgotten about it, 'cos they've already seen The Slits, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, Sleaford Mods, Angry Anderson, Fats Waller, The Pies, Melt Banana and Debbie Gibson since then. Whereas up here, we fast for a week before a Stewart Lee gig to heighten our senses.
