Utter Shit

Just saw this last night with a few mates after a night out...was wondering what people's opinions on the Jackass boys are. I imagine this will divide people, possibly divided into me (fan) and everyone else (thinks it's stupid, puerile shite). I wouldn't for a minute say that it's clever, or that it takes any great talent to do what they do. What I will say is that it's very, VERY funny. There were numerous times when I was in hysterics - now, I'll admit that the booze helped in that respect, but I saw parts of it again this morning and they still made me laugh a hell of a lot.

I actually find it a surprisingly likeable movie as well, the camaraderie of the Jackass boys and the child-like excitement they show before a big stunt is great fun. Most of them are very likeable as well - Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius and Steve-O in particular just come across as good lads who love what they do, regardless of the danger - and I think that transfers to the screen really well.

I do think, though, that they might need to sack it off sometime soon, the stunts are getting more and more dangerous. I don't know how many of you have seen the movie, but in one skit Steve-O puts a fish hook through his mouth and then goes swimming with hammerhead sharks. Unknown to the crew (massive mistake in truth), a far more dangerous Mako shark is attracted to the blood and comes for dinner...Steve-O gets incredibly lucky, as a flailing leg kicks the Mako in the face just as it was about to bite, and it swims off - he was literally a second away from having his leg bitten off. I don't know how much further they can go without doing serious damage to themselves - at the same time, I don't know if they will stop until something serious does happen to one of them.

Anyone enjoy the movie, or is it just me?

amputeeporn

Not seen the second but I remember crying with laughter in the cinema during the first one. Of course it's clear how anyone could dislike it, but personally, once through I had a good time.

Also, I definately agree that their charisma and general likeabillity is why they were the most successful group doing this sort of thing.

Agreed. I think that's part of the reason I don't like Dirty Sanchez, the people aren't particularly likeable and they really seem to revel in fucking each other over...I know there isn't a massive difference between the two but the Jackass boys seem to be in it for the fun rather than seeing each other get hurt. I think the main reason I don't like Dirty Sanchez is just because the stunts aren't funny, though...they don't seem like they enjoy it, they're just doing it for the camera because they know they'll make money out of it.

Slaaaaabs

Can't say I'm a fan of Bam Margera, but his buddy Brendan DiCamillo is easily the funniest of that subgroup. Shame he has such a fear of travelling.

Film was great though, some genuinely funny stuff and the only people that get hurt are the guys themselves. Spike Jonze as the granny was the highlight.

Garam

Have to join in with the DiCamillo love. There aren't really any YouTube videos that demonstrate how great he can be, but he really is a fast-thinking funny fucker.

Can't stand that smug little shit, Bam. Ryan Dunn and Knoxville are pretty much the only tolerable ones for me. Jackass has its moments - not seen this new film though.

But I like Dirty Sanchez.

Brutus Beefcake

I'm waiting for one of these retards to fuck up badly, then I'll laugh.

I think it's stupid, peurile shite *and* I'm a fan. ;o)

Jackass 2 is a hugely entertaining film. The only point where I think they overstepped the mark was with the pubic crab-ridden beard that they concocted. Unlike the other stunts in the film, they seemed to single out the unfortunate victim in an excessively nasty way (the kidnapping part was a good set-up though).

Utter Shit

That was a great stunt, yeah. I don't know whether or not it's an urban myth or what, but ever since Jackass has existed I've always heard rumours that they all hated Ehren and only kept him in the group so they had someone to give all the really shitty tasks to.

I got the same impression with Ryan Dunne. None of them seem to like him, he just gets awful awful things to do.
What happened to Bam Margera's voice? He sounds slightly spazzed now.
I wish the Jackass films had a plot. Actually, that sounds shite.

Sadness

Johnny Knoxville's "Rocket skates" in the first movie made me physically hurt with laughter, that's all I'll say on all this self-harming madness.

Ja'moke

I've laughed at the show from time to time but they all seem like twats to me, especially Bam and Knoxville, they were all on 1 Leicester Square a few weeks ago acting like complete arseholes.

uncle_rico

Never liked them, and yes, they do come across as total cunts. Did anyone see that clip on that "Celeb Interviews Gone Wrong" program a few months back, where some British interviewer turned up to interview them at a London hotel, and not only had they been kicked out for being twats when he arived, but Steve-O then punched him in the balls, because he said "Jackarse" instead of "Jackass"

I'm sorry, but  that behavior isn't funny in the slightest, just cunty.

I can tolerate Dirty Sanchez a bit more(not that I would call myself a fan), because they are fellow faffies.

The Duck Man

My sentiments, really. I've always enjoyed Jackass because it's simple, silly slapstick stunts. Nothing clever about it, but funny nonetheless. And I've always found the "crew" pretty funny.

Dirty Sanchez I really dislike. Their stunts aren't funny - just painful. And they spend half the programme talking about how "nuts they are, right" as if we didn't know already. And then another third is spent going "Owwwwww" or "Auuuuuuugh" as they revel in how idiotic they're being.

Although I agree with you in principle, the way you phrased that just made me laugh ridiculously.

I have some real problems with Jackass. Some of the things they do I find really funny, witty almost.

Taking a rental car into a demolition derby, and then returning it as though nothing had happened was really funny.

Using an unplumbed display toilet in the middle of a hardware store, as though it was the most natural thing in the world was also brilliant, in my opinion. Reading a newspaper made that a great joke.

However, I really can't stand the whole self-mutilation motif that seems to be running through it. The bit where Knoxville was getting beaten up by Butterbean in a clothes shop was really, really disturbing in my opinion. Knoxville was getting pounded, and even needed stitches I think, yet they did this in front of onlooking kids and women - genuinely traumatising stuff, I reckon.

I appreciate that some of it can be funny, but for a sensitive flower such as myself, I know it's something that I'll find more upsetting than amusing, so I'll be giving the sequel a wide berth. To be honest, just reading about the guy putting a hook through his mouth makes me genuinely feel a bit faint, so the swimming with sharks thing is going to be way too much for me!

purlieu

Agreed.  The sillier stuff is often pretty great, but the nearer to Dirty Sanchez they get, the more I dislike them.
As for Dirty Sanchez.... the only thing I can say is 'liposuction'.  Fucking dispicable cunts.

Funny, how am I funny?...LIKE A CLOWN?

Seriously though, glad I made someone laugh. I was in a mood when I typed it.

Ja'moke

The demolition derby/rental car stunt was funny and the old man shoplifting was quite funny too...but doesnt take away the fact that there all twats.

spanky

I kinda like most of the guys involved, although I despise Bam Margera (Exhibit A: any 5 minute excerpt of Viva La Bam)

Dirty Sanchez is just completely hatable in every way though. It's like a shit 'lad's weekend' with a higher pain threshold, and an infinitely higher twat threshold.

chand

I've always hated the bits in Jackass which are just Bam beating the shit out of his dad. Comedy, there. Lots of the rest of it makes me laugh, but even if that shit with his dad is staged, it still isn't proper entertainment.
