Are you actually looking forward to any games in 2015?

I really loved the first two Witcher games. Well, the first half of Witcher 1, and the entire lot of Witcher 2. Love the world, love the difficulty of it.
That and MAYBE the new Rainbow Six game. Looks like a combination of Counter Strike filtered through Swat 4 and forcing teamwork to be key. Looks like you have to kill the other people though, so it's still not as exciting as the prospect of another Swat game, which gained it's tension and brilliance by having you try to bring them in without killing and having you all hammer on the yell button, trying to get him to PUT DOWN THE WEAPON! and GET YOUR HANDS UP! and being unsure if they really were going to drop it. Plus great environmental storytelling from the people behind Bioshock surprisingly.

That won't be here, but it looks like the closest we'll get.

NOTHING ELSE WILL BE GOOD. Bring on 2016.

No Man's Sky
Grand Theft Auto 5 finally getting a PC release
Saints Row 5

And there's bound to be at least one awesome indie title, in the footsteps of Binding Of Issac, FTL etc.

I'm looking forward to Planetside 2 on PS4 - Dec 31 2015 is my best guess.[nb]EDIT: Apparently the beta is confirmed for mid/late January[/nb]

No Man's Sky and Witcher 3 for sure. I also think The Order might just end up okay, and I'm hoping for a The Last of Us style remastering of the first three Uncharteds because I never played them.

Bloodborne is the main one for me in the early part of the year. Looking forward MGS V: The Phantom Pain as well. Yes it will have an incomprehensible plot and interminable cut-scenes, but it will be a prog-rock style opus of a game that will be unmissable really. There's also got to be some news on Fallout 4 next year, I have a feeling it will be the big release for next Christmas.

Mobius

Witcher 3 is gonna be brilliant. Gutted they've held it back by 6 months but it seems they're intent on doing a good job.

Bloodborne sounds like it's going to be too scary for me. I'm shite at those Dark Souls games. The fact that Bauer is voicing the new Snake makes me really keen to pick up the new one so I'm looking forward to that, I haven't played the others but I'm pretty aware of the story and all that.. It'll be great playing as Bauer.

Other than that there's not much. I've gotten all the mileage I can from GTA5 and DA:I so it's back to playing FIFA 15. I wish they'd stick some old RPGs on the store.

mobias

The obvious game for me is Uncharted 4 but I suspect we'll only have just got it this time next year so its a while off yet. Bloodborne looks great as does Witcher 3. Project Cars looks potentially interesting as does the new Final Fantasy. GTA V's first big single player DLC should finally see the light of day and it'll be interesting to see if Rockstar lifts the lid on the new Red Dead game, though I doubt it'll be released in 2015.

A.A

Until Dawn
Life Is Strange
King's Quest
Broken Age Act 2
Tales from the Borderlands (remaining chapters)
Dreamfall Chapters (remaining chapters)
Book of Unwritten Tales 2
Grim Fandango/Day of the Tentacle HD
The Whispered World 2 (didn't like the first one, but it looks splendid)
The Devil's Men
Shardlight/Technobabylon (and anything else WadjetEye may produce this year)
Syberia 3
Armikrog
Arkham Knight

And hopefully someone, somewhere is making one of those adventure game/platformer hybrids ala Valiant Hearts/Stick it to the Man/The Cave et al. I like those lots.

Bloodborne, although if it's all that Victorian Gothic look then less so.

mobias

The Division could be potentially good too but its another Ubisoft game so I'll approach it with real caution. I'll approach No Man's Sky with caution too. Its had a troubled production and it all seems a bit too good to be true.

I think the standard of the art direction in the Souls games has been superb so far though, and from what I have seen I don't think Bloodborne will disappoint on that front. The imagination that has gone into some of the monsters and environments in this series has made some of the more generic orcs, elves and goblins RPGs look pedestrian.

If anything some things were beginning to look a bit tired in parts of Dark Souls II, and Bloodborne looks like it's going to be similar to Demon's Souls in it's aesthetics, which was very Gothic itself albeit Medieval Gothic.

Possibly Witcher 3, but I'll have to play the first two games, which I have but are so low down the pecking order I don't know when I'll get round to them. I also don't know how many open world RPG's I have the patience for.

Kentucky Route Zero Act 4 (maybe 5 as well if we're lucky, but I won't hold my breath)

I'll probably get into Broken Age, Tales from Borderlands and Game of Thrones when they're respective chapters are all released and it's confirmed they don't go completely off the boil.

agree with all that but Demon's Souls went from the subverted Medieval clichés of Boletaria Palace to the thoroughly unique nightmare of Latria via the lava tunnels of Stonefang and onto the unforgettable grimness of the plague babies. Bloodborne is all one-note so far, albeit beautifully haunting.

What's this? Google's not helping.

Not too excited about much that's on the horizon, but the Christmas PS4 haul I made, coupled with a new job, should keep me distracted till late spring at the earliest.

Witcher 3 looks intriguing, but I didn't understand what the fuck was going on in Witcher 2, so I need to replay that, and also the first game, which I picked up at the GOG sale for a pittance.

No Man's Sky looks interesting too, but I'm very wary about games with big promises, and I expect that even if it manages to pull off the whole 'procedurally generated planets' business, the actual game will be wafer thin. Spore all over again, basically.

Is Arkham Knight being made by the same people who did Asylum and City? I'm a bit burned out on that franchise - didn't bother with Origins - and they've used up most of the best baddies, but I might pick it up second hand if it turns out to be decent.

It's the hilarious joke name for No Man's Sky

And yes Arkham Knight, will be rocksteady again.

I've been playing origins at the moment, still good but definitely missing the polish.

Józef Boguski didn't make it into that one?

Resident Evil. Yeah I know, its not going to recreate that feeling from 1996 but I never did finish it then. Will that get me into the Guinness book of records?

  And these too.

And Volume, Hyper Light Drifter, Night In The Woods, and Witchmarsh as well.

But the more I see of Arkham Knight the less interested I get - seems to be getting further & further away from what made the original Arkham Asylum so great... Fucking massive tanks and guns and bullshit. Boo.

Bhazor

Bloodborne - Dark Souls in cor blimey its Victorian London luv

No Man's Sky - Which I'm primarily looking forward to as a wildlife photography sim like Endless Ocean

I only managed 15 minutes before the risible jelly tits and skimpy lady costumes and general sweaty lonely man vibe made me feel distinctly uncomfortable.

Is the story good then?

I really enjoyed the story. Especially of the second one. It has a very complicated morality and is a story very well told, which to be fair, is slightly more common these days where you've got the Walking Dead Telltale games and the Game of Thrones TV show as huge beloved institutions. I'd skip the first one and cut straight to number 2, though.

The creepy factor in number 1 is far more present. It definitely feels like different cultural standards mixing with video game lonely man to make things overtly creepy. Number 2 skips a lot of it, it's still there, but not as much. I think the majority of the sexuality is framed in much better ways. It's at least all done between Geralt and his partner, who are independant of each other and seem to both enjoy it. Though the camera goes all over her body and you don't get to see Geralt's dick, which is bullshit, as you get to see all of her bits and bobs and all we want to do is see some Witcher Dick.

Then again, it also has prostitutes where you can see optional graphic sex with them, which as a 90's kiiiiid born of the internet, I'm never arsed doing because why would I be watching cut scenes of virtual rogering when I could just google consensual fetish porn where people cut each other with knives.

Witcher 2 also has the boldest example of branching story telling, with the entire middle third of the game being entirely different depending on choices you made. You'll end up in either two completely different big areas with like, 15 hours of quests and side quests and nonsense to explore and you just won't meet other characters or get to hear their side of the story unless you play it again.

There's a lot of opportunities to really craft your story, I mean, you can
Spoiler alert
have a boss fight in the end if you're still feeling bitter towards him, or you can just sit back and drink some vodka with the guy and have a bit of a laugh.

They've already stated that the new one's not going to be anywhere near that level. I think they realised making that much content that will just never be seen is likely financially unjustifiable. I think the developers have heard a lot of the criticisms and I think the new one will be a lot better in moving past almost all the creepiness in today's PC GONE MAD WORLD.

In fact, I'd bet 5 bucks that we get to see Geralt's dick in this. They gave him a sexy beard, and now we get to see some dick.

surreal

RockPaperShotgun did a round up of just about all the major ones, over 400 of them listed here:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/01/best-pc-games-of-2015/

Personally intrigued by No Man's Sky - mainly as I cannot see how they are going to cram a non-crap game into that. With the universe as vast and diverse as it seems to be from the trailers I'd be happy with an exploration sim, but I guess that doesn't shift numbers.  Also, as you can apparently name any world you find first, I'll be looking forward to seeing how many "COCKANDBALLS" variants we get. The other thing is, surely they can only test the engine so far, so who knows what kind of weird mutated shit you'll get in the depths of space that they have no way of testing or coding against... could be interesting if nothing else.

Also I've heard great things about The Witcher games, but fantasy doesn't really float my boat so I'm looking forward more to their Cyberpunk 2077 game which is coming next.  Seeing how long they usually take though all bets are off when that will appear.

dctprime

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void, anyone? I'm utter shit at StarCraft, but I am quite curious as to what they'll do with the storyline.

Sold.

I'll play pt 2 in preparation (i bought it in a steam sale yonks ago) and stock up on lube and kleenex in the meantime.

Just Cause 3 and Star Wars Battle Front are another couple of 2015 games I keep on forgetting about. I'm interested to see how both turn out.

Have you played The Fall?

A.A

Ooh,  The Fall. Excellent.

Missed it because it ain't on GOG or PSN, the latter of which I played most of these games on.

But I see it's on Humble, so I might give it a go there.

Urinal Cake

Persona 5, maybe they'd have to change the battle/links dynamics quite a bit though. Hopefully make it free roam-ish. Time to move it next gen.
