DAVE Series 2

I was quite surprised to see that out of nowhere it seems the Lil Dicky series DAVE is airing in America.

There's an article here but I stopped reading it as it looked like it contained too much spoilers: https://www.indiewire.com/2021/06/dave-season-2-review-fx-hulu-1234644898/

I downloaded the first two episodes out of impatience. It's odd they went out together as they don't feel connected, the first feels like it came out of nowhere and feels like a big mad bottle episode, the second is a bit more grounded, perhaps they fucked around with the running order.

It's hard to see from the two if it's going to be great yet, there's definitely enough funny scenes to keep me going for now.  The first episode was one for the 'stressful comedy' thread in places.

Shit, meant to post this in the Comedy sub.

I enjoyed the first two a lot. The first one was definitely very stressful. It was one of my favourite shows last year, seems like they're keeping up the pace. The only issue is the celeb cameos that feel a little hollow.

Hat FM

look forward to watching this on iplayer september 2022.

Episode 3 - especially the opening - is fucking wild. This show is still able to surprise me, so that'll always be an achievement.

I will say, though, that Benny Blanco fella. I know he's playing a fictionalised version of himself, but I see future #MeToo all over him. Gives me the willies. Just calling it here now.

Dr Luke was his mentor so....

Enjoy the programme a lot though, David Burd is great.

lol it was a bit mad

I am enjoying this now. I think it's certainly quite different to the first series. It's less fun I think but that's intentional given the storylines, it kind of captures the situation he's got himself in although I guess it's kind-of also destroyed the dynamics set up in the first as well.

I liked the most recent one,
Spoiler alert
even if it was bleak and tense for most of it. The ending with GATA was great as well as I was just expecting him to be pissed off after being shrugged off on the loan of cash and then them fucking off before he got there after spending all night waiting to get his car back. I also really worried that he'd get arrested or shot while trying to charge his phone in the big neighbourhood.

Quite liked the most recent one of these. Good satire on online dating.

Spoiler alert
the whole sleuthing chain was really well done I reckon and the fact Dave did not win out was a great move imo

It was a good episode, nicely done.

Spoiler alert
Dave's dad hadn't pissed himself right?

I love Dave's parents. They're not in it nearly enough.

"What does 'getting neck' mean?"

Sebastian Cobb

Poor Emma, hope she manages to become a successful director.

You'll like this weeks then.

Spoiler alert
lol at 'compatible' amounting to 'i was fat and your dad liked fat women'. Was actually quite heartfelt.

This week's was great and quite tough to watch. It has been a rough ride this season, Dave is really fucking up. Next week's is called 'Enlightened Dave' so I hope we're nearing the end on a high note.

I'm guessing we weren't really expecting it to be, well that. Odd episode although I liked it.

I've been aware of this for some time, so it's not this that has prompted it exactly but I'd really quite like a go in one of those sensory deprivation tanks.

up_the_hampipe

That was probably my favourite episode they've ever done. It's also quite inspirational to artists stuck in that overthinking rut.

There's some speculation that he'll be releasing a new album along with or immediately after the finale. This season has been a sort of promo for it, which is pretty clever if true.

Any ideas where to see this in the UK? Series 1 was on the iplayer.

I hope so because I need to hear that Ally's Song in full.

Also I won't get the image of bald, eyebrow-less Dave out of my head for a while.

up_the_hampipe

Wow. Amazing ending to a great season. That whole VMAs rehearsal sequence was excellent. Give me Penith!

Yep, nice ending - even though it was different than the first I really enjoyed this season and hope there's another.

Series 2 is now on iPlayer for the more patient viewers, FYI.

amputeeporn

Got into this just last week thanks to a rave review from Bret Easton Ellis - and am now a few episodes into series 2. Just astonishingly good, I love it. It low key goes absolutely everywhere it wants to, while keeping things funny and true.

boxmatt

Excellent series, incredible how unlikeable Dave is prepared to be throughout the series. And what a great way to end it. I hope they make more but I can't stand hearing short clips of what sound like great songs. I need Penith in my life.

Hat FM

just finished this as i didnt want to binge it. what a great series with amazing characters that you really care about. Felt really tension in that episode when GaTa had his car impounded and was getting really worried for him towards the end of the series. Dave's relationship issues with Elz seemed so authentic. it would have been easy for them to have just had a fight on the basketball court and then made it up after Elz had taken a trip to rehab but they worked through their issues in a realistic way. Really loved the bottle episode with Doja cat also. A great observation of celebrity and online dating. Hope there is more to come.

It's a big tease isn't it.

I know that this place isn't Oscillations but Molly is so good

between this and 'let me freak' one thing you can say is Dave knows his way around a harmoniser

Might as well post the Pillow Talking video which has Taylor Misiak (Ally) as the co-star.
