By Rebel Wilson, no less:

I don't imagine too many around here have much goodwill for Cohen anymore (I lost mine a good 10-15 years ago), but I expect this story will cast a lot of the dodgier antics from Borat and Bruno in a grimmer light. Might be a bit of chat in it, who knows?

Proven serial liar Rebel Wilson, you mean?

Armin Meiwes

I don't know anything about Wilson so not commenting on her but "well known actor is an asshole" isn't doing a lot for me I have to say.

Mr Trumpet

Not a lot there really. Sacha Baron Cohen in crass sense of humour shock.

iamcoop

His turn in Sweeney Todd is the best thing he's ever done.

Imagine getting extra demands for degradation on the set of Grimsby

That's some dodgy boundary-crossing on SBC's part that Wilson has described in the past. If what's in the book is along the same lines (and is accurate ofc) I don't think it's covered by whatever clown prerogative Baron Cohen might have.

To be fair, Wilson's only ever messed with the truth when it's benefited her career or portrayed her in a good light or brought attention her way

dontpaintyourteeth

fuck sake are you people seriously going to make me search up whatever it is rebel fucking wilson has previously done wrong

dontpaintyourteeth

also I never had any goodwill for sbc x

Quote'Rebel can you just stick your finger up my butt?' And I went, 'What do you mean Sacha? That's not in the script.' "And he's like, 'Look, I'll just pull down my pants, you just stick your finger up my butt, it'll be a really funny bit.'"

I'm imagining her saying she will, then sticking a lighted stick of ACME dynamite there instead, then taking cover and putting her fingers in her ears.  That'd be quite funny.

Urinal Cake

Rebel Wilson is antisemitic- David Baddiel.

Who the fuck calls themselves Rebel

Probably still emotional about the recent passing of Steve Harley.

Didn't she win a defamation case against the magazine that accused her? That doesn't seem like proven to me

Matthew Dawkins Jub Jub

Wasn't she the romantic interest for both Michael and George Michael in Arrested Development?

After the publisher appealed, she was forced to give almost all her winnings back and pay their court costs. It was pretty obvious the judgement had been flawed in the first place.

If there's more then fair enough. FWIW I had a brief encounter with SBC a few years ago at a theatrical thing and he came across as a bit of a prat. He didn't ask me to finger his bottom though.

She still kept $600K damages though, and it was the appeal costs she had to pay. That doesn't suggest to me that the judgement of whether they misrepresented her as a serial liar or not was flawed, it suggests that the amount of damages was too high ("about four times the highest previous verdict in a defamation case in Australia" according to Wilson's lawyer, so it seems like the appeal put it back down to a more usual amount and Wilson kind of got fucked over by the courts there).

Personally, I don't find it hard to believe that Sasha Baron Cohen pressured a co-star to do some grotty stuff just because some Aussie trash mag said "a school friend" said she lied in an interview about getting malaria.

It's an interesting one. Dozens of Cohen's prank targets could probably sue for emotional damage or sexual offences. His team is really good at getting releases signed and he has specialist lawyers who brief him on various codes and indecency laws. It varies from state to state.

His schtick is all about pushing it and he has to up the ante with each new film, or at least he seems to believe that.

If you were an estate agent or whatever and Cohen pretended to receive a handjob under a blanket while you discussed a yacht purchase, is that ok or just a good laugh? He signed a release your honour.

If more women come out with complaints it would give it more weight but I'm on the fence for now. Wilson was presumably paid millions and isn't some intern who was cornered or flashed in a back room.

Memorex MP3

"this person done some very bad things, you'll have to read Chapter 23 of my book to find out what" feels like an inappropriate way of making something significant public?

The Bumlord

SBC asks RW to finger his bum for film = bad

RW fingers Tom Hardy's bum non-consensually = lol

Or something

beanheadmcginty

I suspect I'm one of the only people in the world who thinks this, but Grimsby is one of the fucking funniest films I have ever seen. The elephant scene nearly killed me.
Also one of the rare occasions where the alternative American title (The Brothers Grimsby) is better than the original title.

But that was about the level of compensation, not the judgement

It's so grubby and awful and stupid (and offensive to northerners) but I laughed like an idiot all the way through.

I will never watch it again.

That is fab, but I'd counter with the overprivileged piece-of-shit sleazeball he plays in Season 4 of Eastbound & Down. Absolutely magnificent, top tier scum-baggery.

I always thought he should do more stuff like that, but it turns out he may have been saving it for real life?

That prank they pulled on the villagers in Borat was pretty shitty. They did try to sue too - I watched a documentary on it, the lawyer representing the villagers was a right chancer also.
