Isn't it superb?  No ads, no childish sound effects, no music, no screechy fake laughing too close to the mic, no shouting, no "hur hur hur that's FIFTY minutes gone by now we'd better get on with the podcast" bollocks at the start, no one talks over anyone else, just interesting people talking about interesting things:

In Our Time?

I reckon what you've described is basically the difference between podcasts and radio. No time slots to obey, so no producers and editors to focus on tightening things into that time slot.

It's a wee bit too smug at times so your mileage may vary but the Empire podcast with William Dalrymple and Anita Anand is pretty bare bones - 2 or 3 people talk about a facet of imperial history - and usually diverting, at least.
