Just to let you know tonight is my last show on CRMK radio in Milton Keynes, I have been broadcasting with them since 1991 so it's the end of an era for me (and them haha) Since moving to Scotland a few years ago I carried on doing regular mixes for them, reposted here of course, but I am so out of the loop with the station now I have cut the ties, and it was costing me £10 a month to pay for a studio I have not used since before the pandemic! Wintersolstice 2023: Eighteen darkly beguiling tracks released during the second half of 2023 from artists including Fantastic Twins, Deena Abdelwahed, UKAEA , DOEXL, UTO and Sextile. Primal, potent... elemental.

Expect Industrial Tunisian dance rhythms with the tensile strength of tungsten, gently falling silver flakes of achingly reflective Guanajuatan cumbia, granulated noise from the sodium-soaked bowels of Berlin, iridescent future dance flowing like mercury through the cracks between realities and tangled carbon shards of unknowable electronica, spiraling in the formless void with tectonic languidity. Not to mention some iron-bruisingly melancholy elegance from the heart of Glasgow.

'Elemental', see. It's... yeah.

Anyway

Wintersolstice 2023 is here, and it ain't playing nice - until it lays its honeytrap. Usually I try to include a big twenty tracks but this time round I had to exercise a little bit of quality control. Don't worry though, you've still got over 73 minutes of atomic-tier tunes to enjoy. One track was so good, in fact, that I had to include it even though it almost broke my 'no artists in both of a single year's mixes' rule (fortunately it's co-credited, so not exactly the same personnel). Also, alpha bros will be delighted to learn there are not one but two songs with male vocalists included this time around. I know! At this rate I'll have to pack for Romania.

Happily I can reassure Solstice mix aficionados that while tracks in a normal mix merge with the ionic conviviality of sodium and chlorine, the songs here shun each other's company like especially reticent noble gases at a 'react with your neighbour' party. And of course the levels, like subatomic particles smashed together in the Large Hadron Collider, are all over the place.

That's it, then. Sorry, just a quick summary this time round, tons to do - short histories of flambeaux in Top of the Pops don't write themselves, you know!

thanks, it's weirder still because since I downloaded the labels entire bandcamp output she was offering for £1.75 last week, she has completely deleted her BC page and all her artists albums! Again it is reminiscent of her father's behaviour as he did a similar thing last year, I don't think they're gone for good as electronic music is in their family blood. Emily K has also deleted her social media accounts which is all very mysterious but at least I managed to get a mix done before the shit hit the fan.
