Title: Torrent site invites
Post by: Junglist on April 08, 2014, 04:37:46 PM
Don't know if its okay to start this thread but I get invites to Passthepopcorn twice a month (8th and 22nd, currently have one going spare) so if anyone is interested, let me know in here or via PM.

Link to a review of the site:

Broadening the torrent site chat, has something happened to TV Chaos? I went there just now and I wasn't logged in automatically. I can't even remember what my username was, so I tried entering my email address to get it sent to me and I was told my email address isn't in the user database. I can't imagine I've been kicked, I had a decent +ve ratio and I recently got a promotion. Anyone know what's gone on?

I use utorrent and loads of my files seem to be downloading really slowly. Like the speed is being limited on purpose. Bastard fuckers. They're up to something and it probably involves money.

TVChaos does log you out after some weeks or months. I managed to submit a request and an admin reset my password for me.

Does anyone have an invite code for TVChaosUK?

I had a ratio of 1.7 on TheBox, but I didn't get invited to the replacement site.

Since it was shut down, I've been relying on cyberlockers for contemporary content, and 'TV-Vault' for older material, but the amount of dead links and unseeded torrents have been proving frustrating.

I managed to log in just now after not having used it for ages, but all I'm getting after logging in is a constantly auto-refreshing page saying there's been a new announcement, which it won't let me read, and "PERMISSION DENIED." Something's definitely gone wrong somewhere.

Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: Famous Mortimer on April 26, 2014, 06:10:28 PM
As lovely as it is, Cinemageddon is getting a trifle annoying. Almost every new film put up there is a huge-sized file (presumably so the uploader can get as much credit as possible) so downloading stuff brings the problems of skating close to bad ratios and so on - I've had films from there which I've shared for over a year that never got me a 1 ratio.

When it's full DVD images, I can sort of tolerate it (even when the DVDs have zero special features) but when it's a VHS rip that's 3 or 4 gig, for no reason whatsoever, it become a pain.

Most of it gets uploaded to PassthePopcorn anyway, and if its a full DVD/Blu Ray image, someone will normally do an encode of it over there.

I have unlimited (as in I'll always recieve them, unless I slip down a userclass) so they'll be available most of the time. They're claimed until June/July though. Don't need any invites in return as being a TM on PtP gives me invites to anywhere pretty much, but always happy to send them out.

I would definitely recommend anyone struggling to maintain a ratio on there, or any other private tracker for that matter, invest in a seedbox. You have to pay for them but getting one for just a month or two can be enough to set you up with a ratio cushion for life. I used The Seedbox Company (https://www.seedboxco.net/) briefly and had no complaints.

I will look into the seedbox thing, it'll be cheaper than paying for upload credit to keep myself on those boards.

Anywhere good for British telly, that doesn't have the ludicrous rules of thebox? A site run by people who appreciate we're all pirates and that they don't own it all?

Has any one of these sites got a torrent of Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned? (Not the one-off DVD special: the normal series)

I tentatively look forward to seeing it again.

If someone could check and/or furnish me with an invite I would be most grateful. Especially if you could come round and install an occasional table with the invite URL scratched into its surface.

I'd like the following:

- invite for a music site, one who has a good selection of electronic music
- a tracker focused on comics/ebooks

I don't have much to trade, except for Cinemageddon maybe, but I'll keep my ratios sweet. Have ratios of at least 4 on all sites I frequent.

Is there a really good tracker for old movies (pre-1970, 1960)? Not necessarily asking for invite, just don't know anything about torrents anymore.

P.S. - Can't believe MySpleen is still going strong! I used to get MST3K episodes off there, circa 8-10 years ago?[nb]now you can just find most of them on YouTube, of course[/nb] I thought it closed down at some point.

Apologies for the double post:

For those willing to use IRC and are after a good tracker, here's a good option (its a general tracker without porn, ratioless too, doesn't mean you can just leech though). You need to take an interview, but if you know fairly basic stuff, it won't be too hard. Read the comments for the IRC channel:

Anyone found anywhere good for British TV and radio to replace TheBox yet? I just want to be able to keep episodes of Chain Reaction and The Unbelievable Truth for fuck's sake, why is the BBC so insistent on retaining their hold over shows they have no interest in making any money off or ever playing again?

I don't suppose anyone has an invite for some sort of torrent sharing site please?

I'm looking for things like Bester Call Sawl, NOrth Park - that sort of foreign tele thing - and flims.  Oh, and musak if possible.

My stats from other sites have disappeared but I can provide you with evidence of a 1:1 ratio (1.22TB up, 1.22TB down) from a 'rasslin site if that helps proves my credentials. Y'all know anyway that I wouldn't lie in this particular sub-forum.

Many thanks in advance if anyone can hlep.

I think my BASTARD ISP is blocking my torrents. I installed CyberGhost because they were complaining about my use of the service and noticed everything slowed down web-wise. I'm using TPB and Vuze but everything is showing as No seeders/no leechers. Even when it did show as 5000+ seeders it would trickle in slowly.

Soon as my year contract is up off to the *other BASTARD ISP to try my luck there.

*Yes, there are only two, something of a bugbear for me and everyone else here. I'm hoping the FCC's recent decision to class the Internet as a Class II utility means I'll get more choice in my location.

Are you using the free version of Cyberghost? It doesn't allow P2P unless you buy the full version.

I've pretty much switched exclusively to upload sites now, the speeds are comparable to torrenting anyway and there's no risk of being caught.

Cheers Unicorn. Yes, I did pay for their 1 PC service but since you mentioned this I tried Vuze with Cyberghost closed and what do you know. I'm seeing some yellow and blue smilies on the side of Vuze so it looks like they want more cash off me!

2ddl.link is the one I mainly use, along with JDownloader to ease multi-part downloads. Still using torrents for the most part though, as it's a lot easier to automate downloads of new episodes.

Yep, I use that one too. They always have 720p and 1080p rips of the latest shows and blurays. The pop-up pages are a pain and you have to know the right buttons to click on, but it's a minor inconvenience. The Mega, Uptobox and Hugefiles links tend to be the fastest (uptobox is blocked in the US so I have to use cyberghost if I'm getting stuff from there). There are a fair few sites with large databases of bluray rips too (mostly YIFY rips).

For music I always use soulseek.
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: Small Man Big Horse on March 21, 2015, 09:17:11 PM
I like Hugefiles the most, it's speedy and the links aren't too tricksy to find, unlike on some sites, though Mega, Filecloud and 180Upload tend to be okay too.

http://rapidmoviez.com/ is another decent site, and if you do a bit of googling you can find a fair few decent forums / blogs which specialise in various genres, though a few of my favourites have disappeared recently. Oh, and PlanetSuzy.org is quite good for...other...reasons...

Can you people whose ISP's block torrent sites still access "aggregating" search-engines like
http://torrentz.eu/
https://getstrike.net/torrents/
... ?

I've been getting some strange results recently on Kickass. The number of torrents for any one particular show are decreasing all the time. For instance, The Walking Dead. I've just input "the walking dead s05e15" (the latest part) and I get 2 results. Episode 14 (last weeks!) - no results. Same with episode 13. Yet if I use "Strike", say, I'm spoilt for choice.

It might have already been mentioned but while a lot of links in https://torrentz.eu/ (https://torrentz.eu/) are blocked, the 'Torcache' magnet links (usually at the bottom of any/every set of results now) will link you straight to the magnet data and thus Torrentz becomes a whole hell of a lot more useful once again.

It seems largely forgotten software, but Soulseek is still very busy with new and old music uploads constantly. I find it far more suited to music downloads than torrents, which are more useful for larger files.

You basically get access to all of the folders on a person's computer that they have selected when they set it up. When you search you can filter by download speed, bitrate, etc too which is useful.

Soulseek is definitely the best way to get your hands on music and also to expand on it a bit, as said with the files access.

Is there anything out there better than KA at the moment? I would like to get Nick Broomfield's TOTGS, but i cannot find it [nb]illegaly[/nb]anywhere!!?

Soulseek is indeed brilliant. I went back to it recently because I remembered all the fantastic bootleg concert videos I used to find there. I have a what dot cd account but I wanted to keep my ratio sweet over there and only use it when I want high quality guaranteed, mainly for electronic stuff and new album leaks, which is one of the things what dot cd is so vigilantly reliable for.

It was great to go back to soulseek and see that it hasn't changed at all in its basic user interface since I first discovered it about ten years ago. Really bare-bones and easy to use, and the chat rooms are largely pretty helpful if you have any specific requests that you can't find. Hard to believe it's still going.

Yes, with a modicum of success.  Would appreciate a more inclusive approach.

I have a couple of invites to Torrentday. It's decent with a fairly reasonable ratio system. As long as you seed, you accrue bonus points that you can then convert to upload credit. Seeding's pretty responsive too, my ratio's mental.

Nothing by way of music though.

If anyone else wants one just pm me.

Thanks for the heads-up. About 10 years ago I ripped all my CDs to 190kbps MP3s (didn't know better). About 5 years ago I sold all my CDs for a pittance as they had been sitting in a cupboard for 5 years. Slowly replacing my MP3s with V0s, and cheekily grabbing some reissues while I'm at it.

I forget what happened to zxcv in the end - did it undergo another change of identity, and this time invite fewer people along for the ride? (Evidently I was not one of the favoured the second time around.) Or did it just vanish up the arse it was so notoriously up?

TVChaos isn't a patch on it, unfortunately, but it seems to be the best we've got atm.

If zxcv changed its name again I didn't hear about it either.  Such a shame it's gone, it was an incredible resource.  I didn't really notice them being up their own arse, and you could find all sorts of things on there that you couldn't find anywhere else, often still seeded years after the original broadcast.  Plus they were very good at offering shows in HD as well as SD, and with subtitles.  TVChaos doesn't come close.  I wonder if the zxcv cappers all just gave up?

It was a combination of little things that probably all make me sound like a petty asshole now - weirdly strict rules about what was allowed (I tried to put up "30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia" on there once only to be told as it had American backing, it was a no-no); extremely strict rules about what version of software you used; and then, when they were closing, refusing to put on freeleech even though all the ratios were going to disappear anyway. I don't know, it barely seems worth remembering now, but I do recall that distinct impression when I had any interaction with the people who ran the site.

Zxcv definitely closed at the time but I heard rumours a while ago that it had resurfaced. However there were a few people I know that would have been invited to the third incarnation, if it had happened, and they didn't hear a peep.

Has TV Chaos gone down the pan? Hasn't been working the past couple of days.

From their facebook page, a couple of days back:

Quote
As some will be aware we have been down for the past few hours. We are currently under DDoS attack and the server has been taken offline in order to limit the damage. As always we will keep you informed as and when there is any news. Sorry about this folks - apparantly the season of good will means nothing to some idiots

Ah good, at least that means it isn't gone for good. Shit that someone would do that and difficult to understand who...not one for conspiracy theories but could a TV company be behind it? Would they even bother, given that most of the stuff on there isn't commercially available?

I'm not asking for any invites, but where do smart people get their music these days? Private trackers? Are PirateBay and the big public trackers untrustworthy wastelands at this point?

Setting aside newer releases, I amassed an unwieldy music library 5+ years ago when it was still in the golden days of torrenting and there was still a robust scene of people posting megaupload albums on blogs, and have been mostly out of touch since. And now I lost a large portion of my library in a hard drive crash...

I would recommend soulseek. There is very little that I have searched for that I haven't found and it has helped fill in gaps in my collection that I have been unable to get from torrents. This includes bootlegs and rarities as well

I usually try to download WEB-DL versions of TV shows, as they don't have the annoying TV station logos and pop-up graphics.  However, for the last week and a half most of the shows I follow haven't been available in that format. Does anyone know if a major release group has called it quits, or if iTunes has changed its DRM or something?
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: NoSleep on February 17, 2016, 08:48:22 AM
I don't know if it's related but one of my downloads from last week had a message from one of the groups (2HD):

Quote
We are not sure what we did to upset -TURBO and ZoneNet. We simply released The X Files and
then they decided to reign down fire on us. We have never taken place in nukenets. Our release
had a 1 pixel fade at the top which is allowed under the rules. They then added the normalized audio
reason. It still didn't hold up so they added the ivtc issue which has been the same on every X-Files
episode in the relaunch.  We did nothing wrong and we accepted the nuke and moved on. Someone unrelated
to us defended us against the lame proper and now today someone decided to nuke an insanely high number
of our releases.

We haven't changed anything in how we encode for years. We don't have real time encoding, we have
the most basic tools and all that and simply put we don't really have time for this stuff these days.
We are doing nothing diferent today with our audio then we've done for a long time. We don't know what
this is about. We haven't even done anything to TURBO that we know about.

Either this shit gets sorted out or we're just as happy walking away entirely. No sweat off our backs.
Truth to be told it's like we already have. The stupidity has gotten too high.

This is all we have to say on this matter

Yes, it wouldn't surprise me if it was something like that, there does seem to be a lot of petty squabbling between the release groups.  I'm not sure if 2HD did many WEB-DLs though.  I'm wondering now if the torrents I'd been getting had been leaking from private trackers, and those leaks have now been plugged.

I just wish there weren't so many TV releases with fucked up sound. Sounds like many of the groups are ticking an "audio compression" box somewhere along the process. Very annoying in outdoor scenes when the background noise is drowning out the dialogue. I go for the WEB-DL versions, if I can get them, for that reason - because usually nobody's re-encoded it and fucked with the sound.

I grab the 720p WEB-DLs from the newsgroups and I've been able to get pretty much all of the shows I watch in that format this week, so they are still being released, maybe just not being posted to public torrents? Don't really use that site much any more.

They've got some decent stuff on there, but I hate the fact that the majority of the film/video stuff that gets uploaded on there is in ludicrously big .ISO file format that you have to burn onto a fucking DVD to watch.  Why they insist on doing this rather than putting stuff up in a more convenient format like .avi or .mp4 is beyond me.

Anyway, it might not bother you as much as it bothers me so, if you want an invite, let me know.

Hi TTT, good to see you're still around.  Thanks very much for offering to check.  Two of the shows I've been waiting for showed up overnight, so I guess there's just been a delay for some reason.  However there's still no sign of these three:

Superstore s01e09 aired 8 Feb
Baskets s01e04 aired 11th Feb
Childrens Hospital s07e04 aired 12th Feb

Maybe I should check out newsgroups, I've never tried to use them before. Is it complicated / do you need invites etc?

Generally you should try and avoid the ones that stipulate "480" as these seem to be designed for hand-held devices and the audio is really thin and compressed.

Checked the newsgroup indexers I use and Superstore was available on the 9th. No sign of Baskets yet, although it looks like it took a few days after air for the other episodes to appear in WEB-DL. Childrens Hospital only seems to have a WEBRip from the Adult Swim website so far (Rather than the iTunes WEB-DLs), not sure if they are logo free or not, but they do only have 2 channel audio.

Once you setup the newsgroup downloads via Sonnar for example, it is then automatic, you just add a show you want and pick the quality you want to grab and it will just do its job for you in the background (I have mine grabbing the 720p HDTV ones first, then it auto upgrades to WEB-DL or BluRay when they become available). It does take a bit of setting up and likely a fair bit of effort to import your existing shows (if they are not already sorted/named properly).

Don't need invites for all indexers, as some are freely open for everyone to join.

I guess it's to do with ratio - people want to get their ratio up, so rather than upload small files, they upload big ones. With stuff like episodes of "Saturday Night Live", I tried arguing with them once, that a recording from TV wasn't going to magically get better quality if encoded as a massive ISO, but I got nowhere.

Are they generally against lossiness? Do they, like Karagarga, see themselves as a kind of archive or repository? The above suggests so. If you have an ancient VHS and encode it using compression it can only get worse, so they sound like they are trying to encourage people to preserve these old tapes in the best possible way. The best way to think of this is; what resolution would you use to photograph clouds? Probably the highest you could, to capture the subtle changes in shadow and form. Old VHS are essentially "cloudy", so the first digital copy you make should attempt to capture it in the highest possible resolution. I can't see a problem, once it has been upped in this resolution, to offer compressed versions alongside, though.

Yeah you generally have to pay for a Usenet provider. You either buy a block of say 100GB that you can use for as long as it takes to be used up. Or you pay per month for unlimited access.

If you happen to have virgin media as your ISP you get free access to their news server though. It also has a 30 day retention but if you automate the download/only want new episodes as they come out it would be fine.

If you can get an invite to one of the good TV trackers that would be the way to go though. I've been struggling to get on any of them for a while now though.

I am on Virgin, so I'm going to give that a go, thanks.  When you say it has a 30 day retention, does that mean I won't be able to get anything that was posted more than 30 days ago?

I use a VPN when I'm torrenting, is it foolish to use Virgin's news server for downloading TV shows?  Will I get a threatening letter asking me to stop?  Thanks again for your help, as you can tell I don't know anything about news servers etc.

The other day I stumbled across this list of private torrent sites currently open for sign ups, in case that's any use to you - https://www.reddit.com/r/opensignups (https://www.reddit.com/r/opensignups). It looks like TransmitTheNet was open for a while last month, not that that's any use now of course.

Amazing that the virgin  news server is still going, I remember using it a lot up to a decade ago and although the retention was short and sometimes patchy, the PAR files could make up the difference and there was a huge range of binary groups. Glad to hear it's still going. Yes it's pretty much the safest way of downloading as the media cos can't see who is using it and so never give it very much attention. The indexing websites were blocked some years ago but I'm sure it didn't make much difference. If you are willing to pay I would ditch VPNs and instead buy a news service.

They've never made a point of it, if they have (and offer most new shows as normal sized rips). I assumed VHS tapes would be about as good, resolution wise, as old TVs are...720x576? Surely a file of that resolution would be identical as a 700 meg avi as it would a 4 gig iso. I'm probably going to be proved wrong in a minute, so I'll just apologise in advance.

Myspleen is odd at the minute though. One of the main things is a bloke digitising his entire VHS collection, no matter what's on them. An old film noir followed by some Fortean-style magazine show from the late 90s.

It depends how much of a quality snob you are really. I know peeps who will only download blu-ray remuxes at about 19gig, whilst I'm happy with a 4gig 720p or a 7gig 1080p. I can barely tell the difference.

Did you mean to quote my post rather than TTT's?

When I did an avi (can't remember offhand what it was, probably DIVX or XVID) from a VHS>DVD I had, you could see artefacts in the avi in places, whilst other parts were OK. It's always worthwhile to know where to get a hi-res copy of an old transfer as compression techniques have improved over the years, whilst the VHS machines you can play your old tapes on will get rarer as well as the tapes aging (so doing another transfer on a new format may not be possible). Those hi-res copies will be the only playable masters.

If the maximum resolution you can pull from a VHS tape is (for the sake of argument) 720x576, though, then past a certain point there's not going to be any difference, surely? You're talking about the quality of the transfer, which is a different kettle of fish. I think. Honestly, I'll shut up, I have no real idea about any of this stuff.

The shitty thing is that all of the A/V formats seem to only support lossy compressed audio, which pisses over their attempt to keep the video as lossless as possible (well, the last time I looked, anyway).
Title: Re: Torrent site invites

I think VHS is an effective res of 576x some number I can't recall. That's 625 line TV minus some lines for blanking interval and teletext! Yes, the noisy lines you sometimes see at the top are in fact teletext.

BTW when I said they're ticking an "audio compression" box I meant compression as in compressing the dynamic range of the soundtrack, not as in encoding the audio to aac or ac3 or whatever.

Well the scene rules (What DIMENSION/KILLERS etc follow) state you should just mux in the original broadcast audio track untouched (usually 5.1 AC3).

So unless you are downloading the standard resolution stuff (where they have downmixed the 5.1 ac3 track to stereo aac) or are playing the 5.1 soundtrack ones through a stereo sound system where it's probably just whatever media player you use doing a shitty job of the downmix to stereo, then they should just playback as per the original broadcast.

Well then they're capping shitty broadcasts. The ones I download almost always have 5.1 sound (some of the WEB-DLs only have stereo but the sound is fine on those), and I am playing it back on a 5.1 system (and I know there's no problem my end because 5.1 WEB-DLs and DVD/Blu-Ray rips sound great on it), but a lot of the dodgy stuff actually sounds better if I let my media server downmix it to stereo and then have the amp Pro-Logic it back to surround. Maybe some local cable providers bugger about with the sound before broadcasting it. I've noticed that nearly all HDTV rips have the surround channels too high in the mix, compared to WEB-DL/DVD/Blu-Ray/Netflix etc.

I suppose I ought to keep notes to see if any particular groups' rips are consistently good or bad in this respect. (I usually just end up with whoever's version is available first, which probably isn't the best strategy.) To be fair, it's a lot better than it was a few years back, both in the number of downloads that have crappy sound and the degree of crappiness, but it's still annoying when I get a bad one.
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: TTT on February 19, 2016, 11:53:40 PM
Ah yes it could be specific groups HDTV rips causing that as I have to say I only ever notice anything like you're describing when shitty groups have done 'analog' captures from Netflix/Amazon of their exclusive shows. I do have IMMERSE/FLEET in my "must not contain" keyword settings in Sonarr as their rips are terrible and almost always either PROPER'd or INTERNAL'd by one of the better groups, so I guess it could be their rips at fault.

So my 'go to' private torrent site for new release TV and Movies, Bitsoup has started to regularly lock out members, including me unless they pay donate $100 a year so fuck 'em. This is despite me having an amazing ratio with about 10tb in the black.

So I'm looking for something similar rather than resorting to dodgy public sites with all sorts of uncontrolled junk being upped. I'm willing to seed heavily so if anyone has an invite to somewhere that'd be great.

Also, is there anywhere currently being the new UKNova slash TKMaxx UK TV site?

Is TVChaos the best one for British telly nowadays? It doesn't have that lovely 6-part documentary on the history of British art, which is a shame. And the Piratebay has got some weird bug - it's all looking bad for torrenting.

I don't think there's been a single thing I've failed to get since I started using TVChaos, although I'm mainly getting new stuff now as I went on a binge of downloading old stuff when I found out TheBox was shutting down. It's not as good as TheBox but it's at least a serviceable alternative.

What problems have you been having with TPB? I switch proxies every time one of them goes wonky and never have trouble finding a new one that works fine.

It didn't have Beyond The Fence, a musical that was broadcast on Sky Arts last month. I even put in a request for it but no bugger uploaded it. Unlikely to be repeated or released on DVD so after this weekend when the catch-up runs out it's probably gone for good.

Protip: You don't need to use proxies. You can access any of the blocked sites by just amending the address from http://www.blocked.content to https://www.blocked.content

All the blocked sites I access have implemented  https and ISP blocks (at least with TalkTalk) appear unable to block the secure protocol.

How long this will last, I don't know, but it has served me fine since day 1.

Waffles has been down now for over a week without any news about why. The IRC seems to be working but there is the same couple of non-responsive users in there at all times; generally the IRC would have a banner explaining the problem and you'd expect there to be anything up to 100 other users looking in at a time like this. Also no word on their twitter.

It has a lot of rare/unreleased stuff. I think it just takes a while to get used to and find something you want. I found the BBC2 Star Trek night which i have been looking for for over 15 years. Couldn't get that or a rare Billy Connolly show to download so looked at the rules and there are only certain Torrent clients that work. I downloaded BitTornado but still couldn't get anything to work though. Will be a few weeks before i get a chance to try again but there is defo something for everyone on there.

Do you have to upload or leave a torrent in your desktop for a while so others can seed or any rules like that? I immediately tried to get Phil Kay's TV show from the 1990s (Phil Kay Feels) but it wasn't on there. I have pretty niche tastes myself but it depends what that niche is I suppose.
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: Twed on November 25, 2016, 03:31:03 PM
I think MySpleen is one of the really rare private trackers that doesn't enforce any ratio requirements.

Most will want you to upload more than you download, or nearly as much as you download.

I seed everything I download for a month. I use a Seedbox (a computer in the cloud running rtorrent) to do my torrenting; I don't think I'd last long on many private trackers if I used my own computers and my home connection.
Title: Re: Torrent site invites

Myspleen tends to be good for obscure American stuff (there's a lot of adult swim shows on there) and fan edits of films, but the odd oddity turns up from time to time, like Review with Myles Barlow which is a superb Australian series, and the basis for Andy Daly's Review with Forrest MacNeil.
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: Beep Cleep Chimney on November 25, 2016, 07:21:11 PM
MySpleen's got a lot of decent video stuff on there, including out of print films and rare TV rips, but the thing that annoys me about the place is the fact that they insist on uploading so much of their video in fucking .iso / dvd format, so the file sizes are ludicrous.

Very few of the uploaders seem to put anything on there in more manageable, user-friendly mp4 or avi versions.

Also to let everybody know that TVChaos are liars:

Keen on getting an invite to Pass The Popcorn. I assume they're gold dust, though.

On several private trackers already with good ratios.

Does anyone know of a tracker for NBA stuff? I've got a place to go to for AFL games and discussion shows and another place for rugby union, that also covers league and a load of other sports, but nothing for basketbally goodness. As per madhair60 above I've good ratios on other trackers, but I don't have anything like invites to offer in return for info. Sorry.

I am currently abroad for long than I anticipated and inevitably missing certain  things that I couldn't bring with me.
Two things:

1. Is there a decent site for kindle/ebook stuff? I had just started reading the 2xhardback extended version of Mark Lewishown's The Beatles Tune In and it was obviously too heavy to bring with me. It'd cost me fourty pounds to rebuy both parts as ebooks, and the real thing was fucking expensive to start with, so if anyone knows a site that might have it, let me know.

2. (Less urgent) Anyone with an invite going spare for a site that's good for British shows/movies? just signed up to speed.cd

I was a myspleen member over ten years ago. Used it for a couple of years but then went to uni and spent less time by myself watching east european cartoon compilations, MST3K episodes, and star wars fan edits. My account was eventually deleted due to inactivity.

Needless to say, as an older, more cynical man, I've returned to being antisocial and keeping to myself on weekends. If anyone has an invite spare it would be much appreciated.

Try forum.mobilism.org or bookzz.org. They both have it, I don't think it's the extended edition though. But they're my go-to sites for ebooks generally.

Ever since TheBox and TvTorrent went off, i have been looking for a good tv torrent site, and i think i have found one: TVCUK.

Problem is i need an invite........

Anyone got one going ??

Or recommendations for other sites with good database of UK and US TV Torrents. Been looking for 'they think it's all over' for years and failing.

Cheers

Damn; looks like I used to be a member of TVCUK and let it lapse. I would think that happened because it was one of those torrent sites that are run as a forum (which makes it awkward to navigate or find out what is still active).

I've never been on that site, but they probably have an IRC. It might be worth explaining you let your account lapse by accident and would they mind re-activating it.

You mean the spoken word shows or musical ones? I'm guessing you mean the latter because you could download/rip the former from iPlayer in most cases. I'm not sure that you'll find much of the latter as torrents, apart from the occasional rip, like Joe Zawinul's Syndicate from 1997 on dimeadozen.org. Actually, that's probably a good place to look (I've never delved into classical rips on there, but it may be quite a useful place to find stuff from the Proms, etc; that aren't available on CD).

Just keep trying to join up on dime, they have limited membership but they flush out the slackers now and then and you will be able to register (that is if you can't straight away).

I totally agree with NoSleep, UKTV has bee awful past few years, but old programs were great. That is why i loved TheBox & TvTorrents, you could get great shows like 'They think it's all over' and 'Have I Got News For You' before they were ruinned by guest-hosts. Currently watching 'Never mind the Buzzcocks', but have to dl from Mega!!
Evening have been very long recently, as not ever been a fan of 'the northern dungeons & dragons' (game of thrones). And 99% of UKTV has been 'made for america' and it feels like the 51st state [Great film]!
And help/hope greatly appreciated (desiring a TVCUK invite).
Cheers

Not an invite but a tip:

For those who can't be fucked with Kodi/downloading/streaming sites full of fake films and ads:

Type index of /movies/2017 into Google and pick site. Replace year for older films. Replace movies with tvshows or music if you want them instead. DL2 is a good link. Index of /film/ is another good one.

If on PC, right click on film you want, copy link address, open vlc, file > open network stream and paste link, open, wait 10-30 seconds, ta da. Obviously depends on your connection speed.

Also it works on phone streaming too, but instead of copying link, just click on it. Dunno about tablets as not tried.

Sorry if this has already been posted, as it's quite a long thread, but I wondered if anyone knew and could recommend some more niche (probably invite only) torrent sites? I was specifically wondering if there was a sports torrent site, but I was also interested in the radio torrent site posted on the first page, and anything else like that that's quite specific to a certain type of thing or genre.

I still find the Pirate Bay pretty decent for most things, but the other two main sites I use are http://rarbgmirror.xyz/torrents.php and https://btdb.unblocked.mx/

Lovely new theme on MySpleen today!

And those tunes had such a good beat.

It's a shame it's not open to new registrations at the moment, even via invite, but they do seem to be being a bit cagey on the matter on the forum so perhaps they received threatening legal letters...
Title: Re: Torrent site invites
Post by: Mobius on April 02, 2018, 02:09:12 AM
Cheers SMBH.

I was trying to find something on TPB earlier but had no luck and it was only showing old results, like nothing had been uploaded in ages. I often have trouble finding stuff using the search function, like I've gone through 30 odd pages of 'recent torrents' to find something I know would have been uploaded recently, but searching that same thing yields no results even though it's definitely there!

Just tried again and its fine so perhaps I had got bumped to some mirror or cached version.

Not sure how good it is yet as I've only just joined but thanks to Reddit I learnt that if you go to TorrentLeech and put in HAPPY2019 as a referral code you can join up, and they give you 10GB so maintaining a ratio shouldn't be too difficult, at first at least. If anyone happens to have an invite, or for anything better I'd be very grateful. I really miss the what.cd days..

Unfortunately myspleen aren't allowing users to give out invites right now, but if things change I'll post in the thread as I have a few left.

Does anyone know if a torrent site exists devoted to audiobooks? Or at least has a lot on them? I've gone through piratebay and that had some, but not that many which I hadn't already read if I was interested in them. I know someone mentioned one earlier on in this thread and said to pm him for info, but unfortunately they have logged in since 2017.

I haven't, but will look in to it, thanks for the tip.

Yes there's a new soulseek client which is much better than old, most have jumped to this now so definitely worth a try - get the QT version.

Not audiobook specific (also ebooks) but myanonymous has about 107000 active audiobook torrents atm

One day I'll get a nice big HD linked to my router and I can consolidate stuff on there, then I'll give Soulseek another go. It's been a long long time but I used to love it

Soulseek is great these days, probably the best for music (especially if you're looking for rarities). I checked last night and there are indeed many audiobooks to be had.

Oh cool, that looks great, thanks for the suggestion there.

Yeah, I did a big search last night too and found lots of cool stuff there.

Audiobookbay is the one I use. I've downloaded countless gigs of stuff from there.

Does anyone know what happened to Waffles? The old link doesn't work any more and I can't find any info online saying that it's moved to a new address. Alternatively, does anyone know any good private music torrent sites?

The link (https://waffles.ch/) says they will be back soon.

Try out SoulSeek instead of a torrent site. You won't go back.

Blimey I remember Soulseek from the early 2000s, it's not the same Napster-style setup is it?!

I never used Napster, but I think they probably work similarly. Soulseek hooks you up with all other users online and you can download stuff direct from their collections (bearing in mind that you should be sharing something from a folder on your own system in reciprocation). There's even a cookdandbombd chatroom.

I posted this in the film forum, but thought I'd put it here too - Just so folks know, https://avistaz.to/ is open for registration right now and a great site for rare Asian gems.

That one is unusable here; every link doubles as a button to open a new window with some spammy shit or other in it. Even the search box does this rather than actually being a functional search box.

Wow, I have literally none of those problems! I'd volunteer to turn of the ad-blocker when I'm on the site but I'm terrified now!

I also don't have those problems, even with no adblocker on.

Seems to have disappeared completely now, anyone know a good private music torrent site? Soulseek just confused me.

Radioarchive appears to be down, and probably has been for ages. Anyone know if it's just moved elsewhere? It had so much good stuff on it.

Just a minor heads up that Myspleen has a two week long freeleech going on right now, so it's the perfect time to obtain weird films from the 90s and odd bits of adultswim comedy.

12 OZ Mouse DVD set, Book Of The Dead DVD (Evil Dead fan restoration/edit), various Twin Peaks extras, The Edge (David Mirkin (who wrote the best ever Simpsons episode) produced sketch show including Jennifer Aniston (pre-Friends), Tom Kenny & Jill Talley (both later in Mr Show), Wayne Knight (later "Newman" from Seinfeld) amongst others). Another curio is Wild Wild South, an early cable vehicle for Unknown Hinson, the voice of Early Cuyler in Squidbillies.

Thanks for the rec. Not heard of The Edge before. I'm currently re-watching North American 90s sketch shows like KITH, The State, Exit 57 etc - and this seems right up my street.

Ah yes; talking about David Mirkin. I see myspleen has the complete Get A Life (starring Chris Elliott) which is ahead of its time (1990) and even has a couple of episodes written by Bob Odenkirk, amongst others. Well worth a look.

There's also 270 gig worth of "Night Flight" episodes, if you've got a chunk of space on a hard drive.

I'd not hear of The Edge before, despite liking Get A Life, so thanks for mentioning that.

I'd also recommend Review With Myles Barlow, the (very good) Australian series which inspired Review With Forrest MacNeil, and all of Joe Pera's shows on there.
