I enjoyed this generally.
What happened with the chase sequence at the start though?
I don't think the contestants were scored for it and it wasn't mentioned again after the titles. A few of them seemed to have put quite a lot of effort into it e.g. Sophie Duker having some sort of aerial dogfight with Alex and Mae Martin even making a cameo appearance in Kiell's one.
Presumably, it was originally intended to be a full-blown task, but they changed their minds after the results proved disappointing.

Twilkes

I don't think so - CoC2 also had a credits-only sequence, I think it adds a little pizazz to the occasion especially as they otherwise only have three location tasks to show off with.

Kiell was robbed in the do something stupid task

KennyMonster

Its a bit of a moot point but did they stop the final task too early.

In the final round Sarah got 0 because she sad Georgina straight off.

But for Sophie to win she'd surely have had to do the next round and NOT fall at the first hurdle?

No, you were out as soon as you said something on the card (or repeated or took too long) it wasn't about getting the most points, just lasting until someone else was eliminated. It was just unfortunate that the first thing Sarah said was on the card

So the only way that Sophie lasted longer than Sarah was by the way that her name falls alphabetically.

Would never have thought that watching elastic bands pop off the head of one of my least favourite comedians would provide one of the biggest TM laughs ever, so props to Dara. And pops.

that's how every other round worked, it's just that Sarah was the first person to do something to get eliminated with the first answer

Didn't each remaining contestant give at least one 'correct/non-eliminating' answer after someone was eliminated apart from Sophie after Sarah though?

Nope. Every round ended when the first person was eliminated and Greg hit the gong. In all of the other rounds everyone did give at least one answer, but again that's just because Sarah was the only person to give the answer on the card with the first answer

Reposting from the S17 thread:

That Champion of Champions episode was the most classic feeling Taskmaster episode in ages. Not sure how to describe it; it just reminded me of the early years. Maybe because the tasks were mostly simple, like, 'do something really stupid.'

The strange thing to me there is Lucy scores so low despite winning 2 episodes.

Bad Ambassador

She also scored single figures on three episodes. It was a very low-scoring series.

technically so did CoC1 [josh singing along with the taskmaster theme]

Didn't Alex deny grouping tasks so most if not all contestants win an episode? He's lying, isn't he?

Assuming they're being truthful about the scoring, even if he is deliberately grouping episodes it would only help so much, with Greg scoring the tasks "live". And the the prize and final tasks that are also "live".

I think if they are actively trying to have everyone win an episode it would need to be a combination of grouping tasks and the scores also being deliberately biased.

Absolutely brilliant episode. Possibly one of the best ever. I barely stopped laughing from Dara's prize task reveal until the end.

Agree that it felt like classic Taskmaster. Using the bandstands from the early series gave it a bit of an old school feel too.

MORE TASKS LIKE THE ONES IN THIS EPISODE PLEASE ALEX

Retinend

Best episode in ages.

1. Morgana Robinson's dress - phwwoooooar!!!! right lads???!1

2. O'Brian's head looking like a literal bell end while popping elastic bands off the top of his bald dome - most I've laughed in ages. O'Brian is not funny for me on Mock the Week but I've loved him in all his Taskmaster episodes. He's a lovable man.

3. Alex going unreasonably hard on Sophie "Puker" Duker after she jokingly suggests "low self esteem" as a handicap for the following task.

4. Sarah rebelling against Gregg in the opening round - "I'm sick of trying to please you!"

5. The "pouch" running gag was classic Taskmaster - not that funny in isolation, but funnier with every callback

6. The "do something stupid" round showed how good the best contestants can be when allowed to get creative. Every one was joyfully stupid in its own unique way.

Pretty sure the 'do something stupid' task was from the NZ version. Don't mind it.

C_Larence

I'd like to echo the sentiment that this was a great episode because I too wanted to fuck one of the contestants. I hope one day they can have a series where the lineup is naked hot babes and the tasks are all just to touch each other's fannies and bums and show their boobs on the camera. That would be the best series EVER!

Definitely.
Doing something stupid should score higher than pretending to do something stupid.

Loved loved loved this episode - agreed it was such an old school TM vibe.

The running gag of Kiell not belonging there was great - he played up to it fantasticly. As much as I like Mae, and disliked the idea of them not being on it in terms of not being a true CoC - it actually really worked

Everyone had their own fun moment - Dara's elastic band, Kiell's accidental stupid, Morgana's paint dance (seriously can we please have more Morgana just being absolutely batshit on TV ), Sarah's house keys and endless relentless clapping, Sophie's Self Confidence. Actually I think most of those were the same task.

Comfortably the best CoC for me, Clive
