Is there a name for this genre of doco yet? And why is Stewart Lee in most of them?

Because he's let himself go so much and cackles so loudly it's more difficult to keep him out of shot and mic range than just include him in the docs.

Deep cut? I enjoyed Scala!!! quite a lot, as did some other CaBbers. And I liked Stewart Lee being in it.

Endicott

It's not that much of a surprise, after all Michael Cumming directed King Rocker.

It's been a while but I remember liking it.

It looks like a short one. Rich put the whole thing on YouTube because the Iceman kept doing sight gags.

Imagine if that guy had been Iceman in Top Gun instead of Val Kilmer.

Just watched it now and found it a bit drab, your ice man fella seems nice enough, mildly eccentric but little more than that, and the stories he told weren't that interesting. Though Herring did go on and fucking on about his own art project / shitty podcast about stone clearing, so maybe with better questions he might have been more insightful.

Dunno but this post has reminded me I saw a clip of Munnery as a talking head in an upcoming Malcolm Hardee docco that was 'coming soon' a few years ago and forgot all about it. Sorry to derail but can anyone remember what it was?

The thing I liked about King Rocker is the dynamic between Stew and Lloyd was so good you really don't need to like or be interested in the subject to enjoy it.

Norton Canes

It's what people call a 'deep dive' these days, isn't it?

It was the Tunnel Club film, yeah. It did come out. Short though, about 30 minutes. Pretty good!

Is it available anywhere?

Sebastian Cobb

Doing some digging The Tunnel was a short but the same people wanted to extend it into a full length thing called All the Way from Over There, although I'm not sure it was ever released, or completed.

Haven't found a name for these types of films and haven't thought of a catchy name. So far I've got:
Excavation Documentary?
Rediscovery Documentary?
Obscure Artist Exposure Documentary?

I'd include in this genre stuff like: Anvil: The Story of Anvil and
Searching for Sugar Man as well as the ones Stewart Lee has been in.

Music documentary?

"Here's a thing that's really good but obscure and cool and I know about and in fact was involved with so I can be the focus of the documentary" films?

Only joking, I really enjoyed the Nightingales one.

I think I can hook you up. I was looking for it some months ago and the hard-to-find-films thread helped me out. Check your PMs in a minute.

Now that I did not know. I do not believe it ever happened.

Quote from: Sebastian Cobb on July 18, 2024, 03:21:12 PMCould you send me a copy of the short as well please?

I think I've only ever seen an extended trailer,  with Munnery walking around the site as it is now (or was at the time of filming). I'd love a link to please if not too much trouble!

Presumably the GFS release will be before the end of the year then.

Is anyone here old enough to have seen the iceman live?
