Awkward Interviews

I remember seeing Pat Kenny interview Seinfeld once.  Absolutely shocking, especially Kenny's inability to pronounce his guest's name.

I watched this at the time. Even as a seven year old, I could see Crowley was getting the utter pish ripped out of him.

Speaking of Pat Kenny, that story reminds me of the time he was hosting the Late Late Toy Show, when Jerry Seinfeld was a guest. He got his name wrong. Talk about cringe!

It would be really awkward if a famous comedian - say, Jerry Seinfeld - went on a chat show and the host hadn't heard of him, and kept mispronouncing his name. I'd love to see that, but sadly, it would never happen!

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

I remember when Pat McCat, the very famous sports reporter, defended some Liesbians from Jerry Seinfelch. Then gave him a plastic 'Batman' figure, and told him to stick it up his arse. That was a bit awkward.

Has anyone got a clip where a Catholic interviews a Jew.  As long as they avoid the subject of religion and stick to something like, I don't know, bees, it should go just fine.

Stop shitting all over my thread  ;(

I like The Primitives (music-wise) and I like Michaela Strachan, but I find the tension in this interview unbearable. Although Michaela's "take your time!" at the start is a bit passive-aggressive, I think in general Tracy comes off a bit worse here. Then again, who knows what went on backstage, so who am I to judge. The whole thing's awful, though.

Bill Hicks on The Word. Excruciating.

Fucking hell, Terry Christian. Was Mark Lamarr doing The Word at this time? If so, he should have done the interview. He's a comedian at least.

"The New York Times named you the most brilliant comic of your generation. What's your generation?" followed by a smug look like he'd asked the most profound question in the world. Terry is a tit.

I love how the American kid is more competent than Michaela, and also this exchange:

"What do I like to do on a Sunday night? I like to play on the computer."
"Oh, the computer music?"
"No, computer games" (accompanied by a joystick gesture)

Can't find it but VLS vs Clive Anderson is pretty terrible.

Yeah, I feel for him a bit because he's trying to ease the frostiness of the whole thing.

Fair play to Hicks, I can only assume he managed to say everything he ever wanted to say in the two hours or so of material he wrote in his career, which is why he has fuck all else to say in interviews. That's one efficient dude.

Quote from: Carpool Dragon on January 06, 2015, 01:04:47 PMTubridy-era Late Late Show becomes "The Awkward Interview Show" every time someone actually famous comes on.

Saw Tubs in a SuperValu fast lane today.

Haven't really given any of these a proper watch (YouTube all stall-y), must say that's the most natural and likeable I've ever seen Leigh Francis from the bit I've watched.

This is my favourite awkward interview, from Big Brother Australia in 2008. The way they did it then was to evict people, then let them do whatever they want for a couple of days before interviewing them later. This guy used his time, not unusually, to do a round of media interviews, but he used them to bash the show for editing a shot misleadingly to make it look like he'd kissed another contestant. The host of the show didn't like that one bit and laid into him when the time came for the interview...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H11qJhfPU1Q

What's most awkward about this is the diabolical job the host does at keeping her anger in check - she's positively seething through a thin veil of faux-courtesy and manages to fluff a simple opportunity to make the guy look a fool for criticising something he's not even seen. Instead, she makes him look quite reasonable in comparison.

Why is Aussie-Davina so angry with that guy? My guess is that she's more than just a presenter, and might be a producer of the show too?

Oops! Wrong Planet

Just remembered the one a few years ago with chirpy local radio personality Les Ross interviewing women's shoe-fetishist Hardeep Singh Kohli.  It did the rounds with the tag that Ross was an incompetent Alan Partridge soundalike, and he is a bit of a twonk, but H from Missteps comes across as an unpleasant bundle of frowns too.

Oof, she is vile.

Didn't Davina act like a shithead to Makosi in her eviction interview?

Davina's ugly side was on display in the very first season finale, when the broadcast came back a fraction of second earlier than she was expecting and caught her shoving Craig's weeping little sister off the stage while barking 'Can you get out of the way please?' at the poor child. Wish I could find it on Youtube. It was our house's favourite bit of celebrity-shithead vérité for a good while.

Is that what the flustering "Don't say shit or bugger" Bo Selecta version of Davina was based on?

It's really bizarre how personally offended she is.

Was she kicked into a shape during the cutaway video? It comes back and she's changed so suddenly, like she's been told in her earpiece not to come across as such a mad confrontational bastard.

Does anyone remember that awkward interview Frank Skinner did with Gene W1lder about 15 years ago. I seem to remember Wilder being a bit perplexed and awkward throughout and Skinner not making it any better. At that I wasn't a fan of Skinner so put the blame firmly on him. I like him now though so would be interested to see it again to see if that really was the case.

Sorry about creative spelling. I have a superstition about that writing Mr Wilder's name down will result in his death.

BPFHAY

If you went to his funeral you'd expect him to leap out of his coffin and do a roll like Willy Wonka.

Keith Allen on 'The Late Show' (it's like a live-action version of a particularly bad CaB thread. It even ends with a flounce.)
[/url]

But interestingly, I think Allen's argument was that you could edit the conversation together in the correct way and create a sit-com script from it. Which, given the madness of his flounce at the end, was halfway right (wouldn't have been a classic piece of work, though). God knows why he got so worked up about the concept.

That Primitives interview is strange. I had a bit of a crush on Tracey as a teenage boy, but it's clear that she wishes she hadn't agreed to be on children's television. If you're going to do it, do it properly (like XTC being interviewed by Yer Edmonds on Swap Shop: http://youtu.be/ek11rvNMwNc) There's no point in agreeing to do it then acting as if you'd rather be anywhere else on Earth - there's no halfway option. You can't say "Ha ha! Look at us, we're on children's TV being all quiet and surly! That showed the world we're still a proper indie band!"

Re Skinner - we can't not mention this interview with Matthew Kelly: http://youtu.be/PD85YLJ2TTo

Yeah, that seems to be it, but she says, "Can you get down for a second?"

By the way, you can use this to pick out specific parts of You Tube videos:

Might be handy for this thread.

That wasn't so bad. I was expecting an Ellen Degeneres style transformation from nicey nice to cold bitch. I am very disappointed that she wasn't mean to that child.

Rolf Lundgren

I'm a big fan of the Kevin Pollak Chat Show and there have been quite a few eggy moments throughout it's 200 something run.

Kevin hints he's had a bad day, Kristen Schaal asks if he's okay and Kevin acts like an arse about it (lasts about a minute or so):
http://youtu.be/3vrN2MKEqiU?t=7m19s

Dan Harmon who created Community is asked if he's a fan of Disney and does a jokey bit about Disney fans which offends Kevin's sidekick (and girlfriend) Jaime:
http://youtu.be/QXGjRkjAXrM?t=29m45s

What's even funnier about the above is Kevin and Jaime's retelling of it to Johnny Knoxville in the following interview in which they blow it up out of all proportion:
http://youtu.be/hhmTv6j8z_0?t=15m33s

There's also an awkward bit in the Barry Sonnenfeld interview where Jaime claims Sonnenfeld had nothing to do with Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty, which bothers Executive Producer Barry but I'd have to scroll through 2 and a half hours of video to find it.
