Watching Doctor Who (2005) from the middle of the beginning (madhair60 sparks discussion about the RTD era -- includes a superb Sheepy-has-to-up-his-game-now list by Talulah, really! to every individual episode discussion of the first three series; many thanks for that!)

Well that looked like a nice jolly for all concerned.

Chibnall-tier.

Deanjam

Well, it was fine. A little thin on plot, with lots of running around to disguise it, but at least it wasn't dull. The Meep looked great.

Small Man Big Horse

Really enjoyed that, it wasn't perfect, but it was fun and it felt like proper Doctor Who again for the first time in way too long.

I loved it!  The magic is back!!

More once the BBC3 thing is over. :)

BritishHobo

Hahahaha loved every moment of that. RTD-ed up to the max. Absolutely mad as shit.

holyzombiejesus

That vile Rolf Harris panting over the end music was disgusting.

BritishHobo

My immediate thought is that we really have seen fuck-all of the second episode, as most of the stuff in the trailer that looked like it could be from that episode actually turned out to be in this one. My second thought is I adore that whatever that episode is, it's going to be caused by
Spoiler alert
Donna spilling coffee on the TARDIS.

Liked it, although the physics as the

was kind of Chibnall-tier. But overall the whole thing had more energy than that. 7/10 from me.

Deanjam

Sad there was no Bernard Cribbins, but I guess they couldn't use the footage they had filmed for the episode.

timbis

Fucking Hell that was shit. Rose might be the worst performance I've seen. It had a bit of life in it at least.

thr0b

Really enjoyed it. Handwave away the big problem has always been RTD's solution, so fair enough on that point.

Big celebratory Saturday night entertainment.

TARDIS interior opinion -
Spoiler alert
it's Matt Smith's but with less than half the charm and all the eccentricity removed

Norton Canes

Sorry, I just want to apologise for using the term 'Chibnall-tier' upthread. Some of his stories were much better than this.

Psybro

It wasn't really for me but RTD season openers never have been, there was nothing there to say the general public will view it with a mixture of apathy and revulsion so job done.  The bits of his writing I find cloying and heavyhanded usually seem to land exactly how he wants them to with people who aren't navel-regarding pseuds like me.

It probably needed to be big more than it needed to be good.

daf

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Get in!

AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!

It definitely looks

cold as fuck, like the least homely TARDIS room ever. Cool as fuck for a spaceship though.

Given the very grand reveal, I'm assuming this must be Ncuti's as well? I know they've got Disney money now, but surely they've not got enough to be dismantling this after three episodes and whacking another one up.

gotmilk

I hated that. The comedy was lame and grating, while the plot was dull and relied on bombast. The climax to the Doctor/Donna stuff was especially flimsy and unsatisfying, using the veneer of a progressive message in order to sell fundamentally poor storytelling. Tennant seemed to have lost all his charm and ability to dominate a scene, to the point where his performance felt like a Jodie Whittaker tribute act. The business with the judge's wig was especially lame. Davies has always written episodes I dislike as well as episodes I love though, so I'm hopeful that I'll still enjoy the next couple.

RicoMNKN

It kept me entertained throughout, so did its job as a big action thing.

Can't imagine it holds up to much scrutiny, though.

I suspect what happened at the end sets up a bit of a revision for its look by the end of the third special.

I like that they've got DOORS going off places. It's got a sense of scale again, rather than a room with only one obvious exit.

Nah, he'll probably crop up at the end of the last of the specials - they'd have removed the reference to going on a trip to see him otherwise, as that'd just be weird.

Really enjoyed that.  Big, daft, not much of a plot, but it makes sense why they'd use a pretty thin story when there was a lot of housekeeping to take care of.  Looking forward to the next one, which is a long-forgotten feeling.

Do you reckon the person that leaked that video of the TARDIS interior a year ago got fired

Toki

That's the bit I was referring to. Bit too stupid and distracting for me.

Natnar

Really enjoyed that. Not that much plot wise but the point of the episode was to get the Doctor & Donna back together.
